Those items are most definitely not alright to use. Ajax is abrasive, and nail polish remover contains acetone which is a solvent. Please head over to the car care and detailing forum and review past threads for tips on how to clean your car.

well what are some bad effects of these products? I mean, I don't see any immediate effects and if the effects come after 2-3 years then I could care less.

btw thanks, gonna go browse the other forums.

The ajax will cause scratches and will eventually wear through the paint. The acetone will eat the paint. As for not caring, aren't there charges for excess wear and tear when you return the car?

Feel free to dry your car w/ sandpaper while you're at it.

Now that I think about your right, it is a joke. Unfortunately, I know people who are that stupid.

I do too. I went to college with a guy who always washed his '72 Capri with powdered laundry detergent. After a year or so it became a very faded shade of red.

I knew of a guy who drove and Opel GT for over 12 years and never washed it. He clamed the dirt protected the paint and would prevent the car from rusting.

woah woah, AJAX is a huge no no. Go to target, buy a gallon of meguiars gold class car wash shampoo, then buy a viking cotton chenille wash mitt or microfiber washmitt from www.properautocare.com also pick up an absorber or big blue drying towel(which i highly recommend) to dry the car off after washing. I also recommend using some type of wax or paint sealant on the car regularly, I personally like klasse, P21S and Zaino. A good source that rates a ton of waxes and paint sealants is the guru reports(www.gurureports.com), excellent source! If you have any further questions please post them, and welcome to the forum .

Thanks for the recommendations AlBoston. Your tips was basically what I was looking for. Some of you got a little off topic with the "joke" thing. Sorry if my ignorance shocks you, but ugh, I'm 18 and this is my first car. << excuse for ignorance

no need to excuse yourself, believe me, at one point I never even knew what a swirl mark was lol. It all takes time and experience(basically trial and error) to perfect your technique. No one is a better teacher than yourself. Good luck, and always post any question you have, no matter how ignorant or stupid you think your question maybe! We are always willing to help!

AlBoston is right. We learn by doing. However, experience tends to hand you one hell of a bill for tuition. If one of us can possibly help another from our own mistakes, then we have an obligation to do so.

I wonder what goes through that person's head.

By the way, I like that sandpaper joke.

Another good tip is, if you already have swirl marks on your car, wax it, you will see the difference.

Ok these insults are getting out of hand. Some of you should realize that not everyone is an automobile professor. Most of you are very knowledgeable when it comes to cars and so I & others will ask for your opinions because its your level of expertise. I'm sure if we start discussing computers, some of you will be talking out your asses too because you don't know the first thing about how it works. So please, lay off the insults, people come here to learn by asking. If your gonna bringing up examples of people u know who are "stupid" because they don't know much about cars then I don't see why you are here in the first place.

02Impressor...sarcasm is a form of humor that mostly benefits the person making the statement. However it is usually enjoyed by more people, but rarely by the victim. Cleaning and detailing your car is a well documented ritual/religion for some people. In fact, the only organized religion I believe in. Go to http://www.properautocare.com if you are interested in joining. Your car will benefit as well.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you if I did. I just thought the sandpaper comment and keeping car muddy to protect the paint to be hilarious.
