"Simonizing" Dealer Add-On

When I purchased a new C240 last week, the "Money Guy" at the dealership tried to sell a number of add-ons: an Extended 3 Year Warranty at $2,000, and "Simonizing" of the paint and putting a protective coating on the leather (for all of it that is actually leather, most of what covers the seats is some kind of leatherett). Anyway, if I recall the sales pitch effectively, the finance guy said that this finish coating would protect and gurantee the paint from dulling/chipping and the leather seats from doing whatever leather seats might do. Do any of you know anything about this add-on? It seems like the overpriced "rust proofing" that dealers used to sell people, but I don't know for sure. Comments?

which dealer is it? I recommend buying Zaino or Klasse to seal your paint. Simonize is basically garbage imo, and its not worth the money.

I am not certain that the process was actually called "Simonize." They may have said something like, it's a Simonize like process. The dealer is Herb Chambers in Somerville.

They said that the process normally costs $595 but they had a special for $395. They implied that having it done would provide some type of warranty that the car would not fade or the paint would not peal, etc.

If u want to prevent rock chips get the Xpel film @ www.xpel.com, i think the dealer may offer it. The simoniz is a waste of money, is it that chinese guy finance manager? If it is he is dumb as a rock. If u want i can set something up with you and I can Zaino your car, a much better system imo. Check the cars i detailed in other threads in this forum. PM me for more details. pics of cars ive done can be found here.

No the finance manager's name is Steve Baker. I am almost certain that his heritage is not Chinese.

I'm reviving this old thread b/c the last post was over 2 years ago and I'm not sure if the simonizing process and/or opinions of it have changed. Is this option worth the $395?

Most of the dealer offers of 'lifetime without reapplication products' are a scam (after all the dealership exists to make money and the law states"Let the buyer beware")

So wither this thread is a day or three years old a dealership scam is a dealership scam.

Well I got some simonize paint sealer and put it on myself... Same stuff the dealer sells, I work there and got a hook up from somebody. Comes in a very small bottle. I used it on 2 vehicles, my brand new black GMC sierra denali, and then I traded that in on my new '04 ML500 in brilliant silver. I think it is good wax, but not nearly as easy to deal with as meguires NXT.
When you buy something like this, you typically are paying for the warranty, nothing more. I don't feel it lasts any more than regular wax.
Shine, feel, and protection are all comparable to others. If you take good care of your car, you should never need a paint warranty. If you neglect it, it may be a good idea.

rgleason. Zaino is not some kind of voodoo magic. Just buy some from www.zainobros.com and put it on yourself. It takes an afternoon.

*Anything* the dealer tries to sell you in the finance room is a rip-off.

To anyone out there even considering these "special coatings" from the dealer....JUST SAY NO!!! It's true that the paint now days is different than older cars, but the technology is much better. Paint seldom peels or fades considerably now days. Just take a few hundred bucks, buy some quality detailing products from one of the quality vendors on this site, and enjoy caring for your MB yourself. The only warranty I'd say to get is the interior one. Make sure you read between the lines though. This type of warranty is fine as long as the dealer will repair or replace damaged areas like carpets, leather, wood, etc. But don't waste your money on products claiming you'll never have to wax again.
