Gas station car washes?
OK, sorry if this has been posted before, but I did try the search. What do you guys think of these, I am pretty lazy about washing my own car, and usually get it done professionally. Sometimes I just want to get it washed after a rain, what do you guys think of these, also shoul I only go to the spray wash kind or what do you think about the washes with the automatic sponges/brushes?? Thanks in advance.

Gas station car washes are the single worst thing you can do for your finish. The presoak they use will destroy your clear coat after only a few washes. The spray is way too powerful and will also harm your finish. It's better to wait and get it done professionally. I use Meguiars quick detailer to clean the entire car and it looks great. Takes 15-20 minutes.

Not only is the spary too powerfull, but the brushes they use collect and retain grit / dirt from previous cars and scratch the car terribly. My dealer has a car was that you can go to for free, but I still won't use it, they are that bad. I won't even let them hand wash it after I saw one of the flunkies drop a wash mit on the ground, then pick it up and continue washing a car.
Also, I always ensure my car is perfect before I bring it in for service. I have found that they spend a little extra time watching their shoes and being careful around it. I also tell them not to wash it when they are done servicing it. My S.A. had one of the guys from the showroom wipe down the fingerprints after the service with a spray detailer / wax just before they return the car to me. They use the same stuff that they use on the cars in the showroom. I don't know what it's called, but it's bright in the bottle and I was told that it's made by Meguires. I would guess that it's their professional series "Last Touch" or "Final Touch." Somthing like that anyway.

the only time i hit up one of those spots was when i was in college upstate and i would only use it to spray the lower body and such with the power wash. i knew it wasnt the best thing for my car but it couldnt be worst than that thick layer of salt and grime on the sides of the car
