lost that "smooth as glass" feel.....

I've lost the smooth as glass feel on the paint of my '01 CLK. Any suggestions on how to restore it? I've tried a good waxing but that didn't help.

Zaino keeps the feeling alive for me on my vehicles. The oldest is a 2000 E320 which has seen NY winters. I am very pleased with the product and the results. Don't let the "multi-step" process turn you off it gets easier each time you do it. I even find myself throwing an extra coat on more often as you can let it sit overnight on the entire car.

If you have any questions there is plenty of help out there on the various boards.

What you are seeing/feeling is bonded contaminants that bond themselves to your paint surface over time. The only way to restore that "Smooth as Glass" feeling is to either Clay your car with a Clay Bar (What I personally do once a year) or polish the containments out with a polishing compound. The latter is best left to an expert is you don't have much experience in this area.

Zaino's page has some excellent application tips on using a Clay Bar. You can read them HERE ...

Personally I use the Zaino Clay Bars. However, I have seen the mothers clay bars and they look good too. Clay is clay is clay most likley. Get the brand that is the best deal.

For the most part you are right. BUT, 3M's clay bar is much stronger than the mothers bar. I would recco it over mothers. I haven't used zaino, but many praise it. Pinnacle poly caly is quite good from what I have heard. Stay away from meguiars clay. Everyone says it sucks.
