I must admit I got really excited reading the thread title. After having this car for over a year and a half I only recently had seen my engine "exposed". Cool stuff!

Leave it with the cover off like in the last photos, it looks best that way.

Filter

Everyone pester K&N and GreenFilter to make an application for the 320 CDI inline-6.

K&N filters are available for V6 E320 CDI equipped cars and smaller E220 CDI equipped cars.

I'm afraid that as the I6 is phased out, its now or never, aftermarket air filters may never become available.

Ken, I did just that, both Green and K&N said they have no plans! The I-6 while IMHO the better engine is going to be the red headed step child, I'm afraid! At least RennTech did a tune for it!

H-Town, I ran it with the covers off, and it was as loud as the old 300D! I'll keep the covers on.. it's not like this engine runs hot or anything!

I know for the older turbocharged diesel models, it has been shown that there is no increase in power, mpg, or 0-60 times when a K & N filter or other less restrictive filter is used, and that it only allows more dirt in more than anything. It's probably true for the newer models as well, though I'm not sure.

aFe is Advanced Flow Engineering. They don't have anything for the Mercedes currently, but I have run their filters on my Dodges for almost 9 years now. K&N allow too much debris to enter the intake. Even the stock paper filters are better. So, at least stick with the stock paper filter before going with the K&N. They are what marketing dollars make you.

on edit: You can send aFe the measurements of the stock filter and they can cross reference their products from their racing applications. It may not be a perfect fit (length comes to mind), but they should have something that will work.

That's a mighty BIG filter for a 3.2L engine. I doubt a K&n could flow more!

Net-Jets? My bro-in-law has a 1/4 share on a GIV with EJI..

Good pay raise you guys just got at EJA.. about time fractionals start to raise the bar .. now if only the bottom dwellers like my old outfit Swift Air can do the same! I might see myself back in full time aviation.

If you don't want to share details of your employment in public, email/pm me..

I was trying to dig around for a pic of my buddies 300sd that i just sold him.

Everything runs on vacume and there is about two feet on either side of just empty space.

Lots of places to work around and get dirty. Don't see that much in this car.

Injectors and spark plugs right next to each other. Notice the variable valve timing too.
