Why?
You have an inline 5 cylinder, I suspect.
BMW uses a twin turbo in the 535d inline-6. One is big, one is small, it is just to give more linear power with less lag.
Twin turbos make sense on V6 and V8 engines, but what's the advantage of twin turbo on an inline engine? You would have to do a lot of engineering work to get it right. Not worth it. If you want more power your best bet (dollar wise) with that car is to jerk the motor out and stick an LT1 Chevy 350 in it. You could use all the money saved to buy the extra gas (although with overdrive you would still get 22-25 MPG with an LT1 in that tiny car).

Well, I will not do that, I want the original Mercedes-Benz engine to stay in it. Thanks for the information, however.
Oh, and, by the by, the 300D is not a "tiny" car.

A VNT (VGT) turbo would be far more simple than series twins. Parallel twins makes no sence on this platform because it's an inline engine.
However, a pentaturbo design might be cool.

I had a feeling that's what you were ultimately getting at....sadly, I would like a gain in horsepower, not the same amount...
if I can get an extra 20-25 horsepower, I would happy.

20-25 Hp?
That's easy. Just "turn the fuel up" and tinker with the wastegate to stuff more air in.
I have a BMW diesel in a Lincoln, inline 6, (M21 engine, same as old 524td). That sucker smokes tires, all I did was turn up the fuel and boost. Have to watch the EGT's though, easy to glow the manifold/turbo cherry red with an extended 120 MPH uphill mountain run.
PS this is the diesel forum, where we drink our black beer warm and eat thick steaks rare. We don't talk about horsepower, torque is our metric.
