muffler

pls buy oem. if u do not have proper back presuure. u will loose mileage. your waste gate valve will get stuck. nothing but problem, cost me over $4500 to get my car back in shape.

Not true. I have been running with NO mufflers for two years. No change in MPG, no turbo problems (I actually get boost faster) and have had no exhaust related problems.

No matter what muffler you get, you won't get anything more than slightly lower turbo lag and louder exhaust.

muffler

I would buy an oem also, with the newer diesels, sometimes you never know what will happen if you change something as simple as the muffler. I have a 99 E300 and a 1980 300sd. The 1980 diesel is completely mechanically operated , whereas the 99 diesel is completely computerized. It may change the performace if you use a different muffler. Before I tried it I would call a dealership and ask someone in the service dept.

The Mercedes exhaust is heavy-duty & HEAVY!

It is very well constructed with heavy gauge everything. Worth its weight in stainless steel so to say. Good idea if you want to keep the car for a while. MB OEM parts are almost always the best.

However, I like the idea of a straight pipe too in an older car. Loud.

All Diesel Heads should visit this site

tdiclub.com

This is a VW site based in Canada but has strong following in the USA as well. There are some common info that can be shared with MB diesel engines.

Try it guys.

There is a story on this site about straight pipes

I forgot to say that in the technical section of tdiclub.com they have a modified earlier model VW Jetta TDi with a straight pipe which you may find interesting.

Now I can see that you own a 1988. It is a great car for a few reasons:

1) It is not encumbered with all the latest complicated electronics. If my memory serves me right this model has around 160 horses.

2) It is not a common rail injection engine.

3) It is not ladden with all that Sierra Club favored "filters" and "catalysts" that are no good for man or beast.

4) It burns anything from peanut oil, KFC secondhand oil to automatic transmissio fluid to used black engine oil (if you dare) while the tree hugging Sierras are crying in their beer.

5) Since it does not have all that latest an-virus-mental crap you can just about do anything to make it go faster, dirtier, smokier and noisest!!!

Right on brother!

Sorry there is a typo

I meant to say 1998 and NOT 1988.

i have 177/330, the chip im looking for will give me 218/412, ill be happy with that.
