Ad Blue-$32/gallon!!! Any Alternatives?
Saw Ad Blue is $32/gallon. Is this true? Are there any alternatives? What is the experienced use rate for those owning a MBZ diesel which uses Ad Blue? THANKS!!!!

Do an internet search on diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). You do not need to buy Adblue from the dealer. VW dealers sell it cheaper. The Adblue urea solution is pretty much the same where ever you get it. Additionally, more and more truck stops are carrying it as well. Hope that helps.

Either don't buy the vehicle with such a half-assed approach to solving the emissions issue, or figure out a way to remove the system and regain the economy and power it chokes out of the engine.

$12/qt in special bottles with intricate filler neck from MB, VW, & Audi for foolproof refilling
$18/jug in regular 2.5 gallon jugs from VW, but you will need a clean long-neck funnel to refill the tank with these jugs
Seems like a no brainer to me...we just fill up using the VW 2.5 gallon jugs, and tell the dealer not to refill Adblue during service.
I would expect someone with such strong opinions to be better informed. AdBlue does not "choke out" the engine's power & economy (that's the EGR's job), and if anything lightens the load on the EGR system. That being said, I do prefer the inline-6 in our '05 cdi to the v6 in our '09 Bluetec because of it's relative smoothness and simplicity.

Why? During a dealer service it should be free.
As is said most frequently by people that know the least about the topic of discussion.
Yes, actually it does. Its a catalytic converter system which adds restriction to flow and cooling of the exhaust (which further restricts flow).
Incorrect. EGR duty cycles are increasing with every revision of the emissions standards. Most manufacturers are already using up to 50% recirculation (Ford, VW and Toyota to name a few).
And it wasn't designed around meeting emissions limits as cheaply as possible.
I would expect someone with such strong opinions to be better informed.

FYI, I just noticed that the Shell station near my house is now selling BlueDEF (which is made by Peak) for $5.99 for a one gallon bottle. That is full retail. It also comes in 2.5 gallon containers. I am sure that it would be easy to find this stuff cheaper than 5.99 per gallon since that is also what this Shell station is charging for windshield washer fluid.
Here is a link to the DataSheet for BlueDEF... http://www.bluedef.com/PDF/BlueDEF_Data_Sheet.pdf It is ISO 22241-1 compliant...
For me, I don't need the stuff... My GL320 is a 2007.

I am writing you this private message to let you know that I do not appreciate your use of ugly language in replying to my inquiry. It is uncalled for and unappreciated. In the future, I would kindly ask that, as my mom said, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." An apology would be appreciated.
BTW, I enjoy MBZ cars. I just don't think situations such as this Ad Blue pricing are necessary. I see you own the W123 diesels. They're great cars.
Sincerely,

Another FYI. I. just saw BlueDEF selling for $10.99 for 2.5 gallons at a Flying-J truck stop. At that price you can fill the whole AdBLUE tank for about the same price that MBZ is charging for one gallon.
Hey 240D, stop with the douchebaggery. We all know how you feel about the new emissions equipment by now. Frankly though I know you are just secretly jealous since you are still driving that bootyfabbed beater. That's the only reason I can think of why so much of the "information" you post here is either dead wrong or something you made up.

Dummo4x4, if you had the slightest bit of comprehension skills you'd understand how incoherent your post is.
Oh, I apologize if you lack the necessary "capacity" to maintain and repair your own vehicles. Is that why you buy new junk every couple of years? Come back when you're ready to rebuild your CDI's engine. Oh wait, you're both incapable of the task AND your engine is a non-rebuildable block of scrap metal.
If you dislike me that much, please, save us both from your ignorance and add me to the ultimate form of bliss, the ignore list.
Happy driving.

Blow some thick rich black smoke!
Dodge trucks with the Cummins diesel still do not need urea with the 2010 MY while GM and Ford are going the urea way.
There are still ways to disable diesel emission systems. There is a company in Alberta, Canada by the name of North American Diesel or something which does a system specially for late model diesel trucks.

Dude, you really should stop trying to $hi+ on people with newer "**** can" diesels. It seems like everytime someone with a newer emissions-controlled diesel asks a question to improve their ownership experience, all you have to contribute your opinion that anyone who buys such a car is an idiot. These posts inevitably turn into a retarded internet argument that contributes absolutely nothing.
I still love my 230k-mile, turned-up 12v CTD Dodge and wouldn't trade it for a newer version. But that doesn't mean that I should run around the Cummins forums telling 6.7L owners that they're idiots for buying a diesel with a DPF.

Facts are facts. If they don't like the system they should have done their research before committing.
of which you are the primary contributor.
A DPF is a very easy system to remove, it doesn't depend on the owner contributing anything but more money at the fuel station, the DPF will be around for decades to come because its a Diesel's nature to smoke, and the 6.7L owners get an additional 0.8L of displacement to play with.

Hello Newbie! I find it interesting that you jumped in on this particular thread after only joining the forum yesterday. The majority of new members initially post on the forum because they need help with their vehicle or have related questions. Nevertheless, welcome to the forum!
