06 e320 cdi city mpg horrible
First may I say I love this car. Second, on the freeway, I get 40 miles a gallon
quite easily. The city driving however, is horrible. the e320 cdi has an EPA rating of 27 miles mpg in city......and i'm lucky to be achieving 23 !! and thats after driving the car for 10 minutes in city driving on a fresh gauge restart. Is this typical or is the eclass cdi a big fuel drinker in the city ? Thanks for what ever thoughts I might get here

We never see > 25 in city and have owned from new. We're at high altitude, too.
If you view EPA site, the original figures have been revised to 23/33.

'06 CDI here, and I consistently get 32-33 mpg (hand calculated) in city/freeway driving and 38 mpg or so on highway. My mileage only varies one mile per gallon in either direction. My car currently has over 60k on the odometer, and the fuel mileage has been this way since 20k.

To increase my MPG in the city I try to :- Anticipate traffic lights & what other road users are doing to maintain a steady flow.
Use gentle acceleration.
Avoid heavy braking .
Stop the engine for longer delays.
Put a few more PSI in my tyres.
Take all the unused items ( golf clubs)out of the boot to lessen weight.
Try to travel outside peak hour.
Any more sugegstions ?
