smog test not completed
The smog test was not completed because the computer is not "set" yet, according to the mechanic. It's as if the battery was recently disconnected or something, and not enough mileage has been put on the car since.
However, nothing has been disconnected for a long time, and the car has been driven quite a bit the last month.
Any ideas would be appreciated------------------thanks!
"Reason for failure: OBD readiness not set (I/M monitor)." quote from station boss.
Will be taking the car to a MBZ mechanic tomorrow to check the EGR/VVT system to diagnose the problem.
We're the original 1999 owner. It easily passed the smog tests in the past.
If you have any suggestions as to minimizing our costs, we're listening!
This mechanic has been the only one to do any work on the car for years.
There may be an issue with what had to be added to the car in 1999 so that it could be sold in CA; we'll see.
Keep us updated. I assume you don't have a check engine light on?
The multi function indicator indicated "exterior lamp failure" a couple of months ago, and hubby re-set the bulb that has loosened in the past. Fine since then.
Not a single car problem since.
He told hubby that he could take the car directly to the smog station (no new mileage needed), and he did-----------smog test passed!
So now hubby suspects that this mechanic did/did not do something during the previous repair 1.5 years ago, such as not resetting what he should have.
Shall be interesting the next time the car goes to the shop. If it was the mechanic's fault (or his employee), I guess we no longer will think so highly of him!

It might have been due to cleaning out the injectors with that process.
Since this is our third MBZ diesel, hubby does that "flooring" occasionally, but apparently not enough. This was something taught him by other mechanics years ago.
