Need advice!!
I have a 2007 GL 320 CDI with 190000 miles and after a short drive on the interstate the engine start rattling very loud, seems like something broke inside... very noisy. Stopped the car and I checked the oil level it was normal, a little white smoke came up when I opened the oil cap. I waited for about 30 min and restart the car, the same rocks crunching noise from the top of the engine, I shut it off right away. Anyone experience anything like this? Please help, thank you very much! I use a scanner and I just got some transmission codes( I believe P0717 and P0718), nothing from the engine! No check engine light on? I always change the oil on time and I replaced the belt and pulley btensiometer last summer! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have what you think you have, that would mean you need new engine.
How much you can work yourself, if mechanics are not easy available?
If you have loose parts inside the engine, turning it by hand should give you a feel about something knocking inside. Beware that those timing chains don't like to be stretched on reverse, so turn the engine only 1 way.
Than you can pull glow plugs and insert one of those miniature cameras.

Good place to start would be pulling the valve cover and looking for missing valve stems. Would also be worth dumping the oil and looking for sparkles (or chunks) contained therein.

I just got the car home and tomorrow morning I will get into that! Thank you so much I will keep everyone posted! I don't have much experience and I will take it slowly step by step, so bummed I love this car is been pretty good to me drove almost 100.000miles.in 2.5 years and never left me on the road! Great diesel mileage! Changed a few things air springs front and back ,shocks, did the oil cooler seal, cleaned the intake manifolds, Crankshaft sensor, CV axles, control arms, and a few other things, I love the car and I really hope I don't have to get a new engine on... Keep you posted!
Thank you for your time,I really appreciate it since I don't have any experience with engine stuff!

Did you check all the valve springs and visible parts?
This engine uses valve cover to hold the camshafts, so don't think you can turn the engine with them off, but now, having injectors off, you can stick one of those android snake cameras inside each hole.

Now that injectors are out, put a scope in and see. ALSO have a peak at the tensioner.
I would drain oil first and send it for a quick lab analysis.
