Blocking egr

Blocking egr
Hi everyone,
i have got a question regarding blocking the egr valve. Engine is om642.950. The exhaust pipe is dividing right behind the turbo. Thats where the egr pipe is connected. The blanking plate can be fitted over there. Another option i am thinking of is where the egr pipe after the cooling block gets connected to the accelerator valve, that is where intercooler pipe gets connected to.
Question is if there is any difference if i blank it next to the accelerator valve block and not behind the turbo? It is much easier to access it at the front of the engine.
(I know the egr has to be erased on ecu prior to banking it.)
Thanks everyone for taking time reading my question and suggestions.

I’d block it pre cooler just keep any carbon possible out of that area. Also machining out the EGR Venturi funnel in the inlet pipining and epoxy or welding shut yields decent gains. It did on my OM648 at least. I’m so tempted to pick up a dirt cheap OM642 e class over winter just to play along.

I am thinking same, blocking it before the valve, to be sure. And cutting off that curved pipe - that is a brilliant idea! Did not think of that. Definitely doing that as well!
Thanks a lot for your message.

There are pics of mine before and after cutting on here somewhere, but none of the finished welded up product. Hopefully this winter I’ll have time to take manifold off again and I’ll get some good pics.

Brilliant lol. Thanks but hardly lol. Ford Ford 7.3 or Cunnins or even CR140/170 VW TDI folks theses are common bolt ons...G’s just we fortunate Benz owners get to make everything ourselves because very few people bother mucking about with OM642 or OM648 Mercedes diesels. First world problems right, beats worrying about my next meal.

Accidentally I did run into a link to where pics of some of my mods are posted this forum including my “truck” manifold and EGR truly professional killing I did on it.

its a long thread and pics a bit slow t old form hosted location but not just my car...good read if you are planning on staying stock.

Ok, i am having to take the "brilliant" back. But the idea is good. Ideally we would not have to do any of the mods like this. All this egr, dpf bull**** just should not be there. Other cars have mods ready to bolt on? Good for them.
I dont think there is much work to do to blank it anyway. Just cut the pipe off and make a blanking plate for that end, fit it and its done.
Possibly will copy the blueprint of this plate and put it on market for other MB owners. Worth considering.

looked through your pics of the venturi pipe cut off process. nice work. my om642 has got the venturi pipe bolt on. I will have to cut that pipe off to fit the blanking plate though.

On mine using aluminum it was easy and made a great water/methanol spigot location...or propane....or whatever, spare spigots are nice. Likely I’ll only use it for an #1 or #2 water/meth nozzle. If I ever get totally hateful maybe nitrous lol. Nitrous is pretty sick intercooling on diesels, power gains obviouly but, not near as dangerous as chemistry using homogeneous charge like gasoline motors.
