cleaning engine, what to use ?
Good day and how are you all. Yesterday I did an oil change on my e350 bluetec, have a question for you. The exterior of the engine is getting pretty filthy. I usually keep my engine and bay pretty clean, This is my first Benz and there are a ton of electrical connectors on the engine. So, what can I use to wash the engine down and get the grime ,dirt, and salt off of it? Will Simple green work safely and should I do it while the engine is cold, hot or doesn't matter? Thanks, have a great day, E350cruiser

I don't think that the process is any different for a MB.
Personally, I use Gunk (only if really greasy) on a warm engine, then pressure-spray it all. Always wrap the alternator with a plastic bag, learned that the hard way back in my teens.
Nozzle shouldn't be too close to the engine or components/connectors either. I clean from at least 12" away and knock on wood, have never once had any issues pop up after a cleaning (except for that one alternator 100 years ago...)

PLAIN WATER on warm engine always work for me.
In previous house I had 150 psi city water pressure, what was cleaning even grime accumulation.
Present 60 psi takes longer, but still washes out wet oil stains.

Simple Green in the spray bottle. I used on my ML-250 last fall, I just sprayed on, waited 10 minutes and rinsed with warm water. Looked like new.

If you are talking to me, the answer is yes. I also use their concentrate on my P car wheels to remove the brake dust. Works as good as the $20 a bottle stuff that only cleans them twice. I buy it by the gallon and dilute it 1-5 for the wheels.

I guess it all depends on how greasy your engine is. Mine doesn’t leak oil so it wasn’t that bad. I don’t know if I would expect it to clean 30 years of neglect

i picked up some simple green pro HD concentrate at Canadian tire recently https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/s...-0532460p.html
used it in a spray bottle to clean gunk off parts, it seemed to work well, but nothing was super dirty, and I haven't used it yet to try and clean the engine/engine bay
