P2201 code after 2 new NOx sensors and SCN coding (readaptation) from MB dealership.

Hey everyone...

My BIL is still having CEL issues. P2201 code CEL pops up even after having 2 new NOx sensors installed (by myself and got them off amazon). At first I thought it was because it needed online coding/readaptation from the MB dealership. Well after his appointment, the dreaded CEL came back with the same code! What the heck? I guess it would either be a wiring issue or a faulty brand new sensor?

Has anyone experienced this before? 2013 ML350 BT. Around 135 000 km...

My first step will be contacting the company (GERMBAN) for a warranty claim on both sensors (they come with 2 years warranty). While the new sensors are on their way, I'll check the wiring from the sensor module all the way to the back/front of the car. Is it possible all of this is caused by a wiring issue (in the trunk near the spare tire where the control unit is)? Maybe a fuse?

Aftermarket sensors do have high failure ratio and I am surprised MB dealer would even code them. I am buying MB sensors at https://www.mbdirectparts.com/ but not sure they ship to Canada.
Since the car require SCN coding, you are at stealer's mercy and have to take it back to them.

Thanks for the reply. Correct, the stealership coded them and only charged me 163$ for everything...I’ve heard from people being charged over 350$ for the coding (over 2 hours labour). So I paid and ran!

Regarding the sensors well, I’ll do a warranty claim on them and check for wiring issues (I’ve seen threads on this website that people had wiring that was fried and they changed the sensors for nothing).

Dealer should be able to pinpoint the sensor who triggers the fault.
Sometimes it is better to pay the dealer more for full troubleshooting, than 3 times for codding aftermarket sensors.
If you know what I mean.

IIRC, P2201 refers to the front NOx sensor. I’m afraid you might be right about the troubleshooting part...

Scn coding needed for new nox sensors?? I have never done a scn after replace nox sensors. I replace sensors, and use xentry to "reset learned values" for upstream and downstream sensor. And thats it. NEVER used SCN for this job.

SCN coding come to play about 2014, so earlier models don't require it.
Since my reply over 2 years ago, new stuff come to the market.
There is ebay seller who sells probes only and pretty cheap. Since you splice the wires and don't replace the original module, no SCN coding required.

Okey, i did not know that. For my 2014 ML350 Bluetec, SCN nox sensors isnt even an option in xentry. Only SCN for scr control unit is posible, not SCN for the nox sensors Thanks for the ebay link
