MB bluetec lawsuit in USA

DEF injector
DEF injector controller
DEF supply module
DEF pump
Temperature sensor unit
also there is note about free OBD diagnosis scan for malfunction that trigger MIL.
Tank is a tank, I don't think I'd worry about its warranty, but isn't DEF pump and DEF heater in the same unit?
We will have to live to see how dealers will play those things.

The DEF pump sits on top of the heater. If you look at the MB parts catalog, they pump is listed as a separate part, repair kit P/N 002-470-68-94-64. The DEF Heater is shown as a separate part also listed as a repair kit P/N 212-471-05-75. The temperature sensor unit lives in the heater assembly, along with the level sensors. I got my car back on Friday, and the MIL popped back on this morning on my way into work. I'll schedule it in for a stop, but I do not expect if it's the level sensor code again that it will be covered under warranty. It looks like the only part of the heater assembly covered is the temperature sensor. The heater itself and the level sensors look to not be covered. Again, I have no idea why.
Now, the fact that the DEF heater is not a listed part or a replaced part is a problem, because that is a separate, unlisted part, not replaced as part of the emission modification, an unreliable component, and about a $3,000 dealer repair. The dealer will follow the warranty to the letter and the heater is not covered.
That being said, prior to this settlement if you needed a level sensor, temp sensor, or a DEF heater, the dealer would not replace those individual parts. Instead, the repair called for an entire DEF tank assembly, hence, the $3,000 repair cost. Now, with the settlement wording, you can bet that we will be on the hook for the labor to remove and reinstall the tank and replace the heater alone, same cost, ~$3.000.
DO NOT LET YOUR DEF TANK RUN DRY. DO NOT RELY ON THE LEVEL SENSOR TO LET YOU KNOW YOU NEED A REFILL. KEEP THE DEF TANK TOPPED OFF. THE HEATERS FAIL BECAUSE TANKS ARE RUN DRY. TOP UP AT EVERY REFILL BECAUSE THE AEM CALLS FOR MORE DEF.

The often DEF refill advise is very common on Sprinter forum. Lot of members use ScanGauge to monitor DEF level and refill at about 50%. Unfortunately the OM642 ECU is not supporting DEF gauge, so that brings more troubles.
Newer Sprinters have DEF gauge on dashboard, so somebody in Stuttgart sober up.
I purchased the SUV new and have loved every mile in it. Love the fuel mileage it delivers. Such a comfortable long hauler.
Thanks

The warranty won't exist when you don't do the modifications.
Let me refresh the link what modifications apply https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/daim...vil-settlement
There also is a note that the warranty will cover the parts who might be affected by modifications, so legally MB USA has the right to refuse taking care of preexisting conditions.
It is a case for lawyers to finalize I guess.
No mileage change on mine, but it stays lower rpm/ shifts sooner when cold and it is HARD TO START. Cranks in the morning 5-6 seconds instead of 1-2 after glow plug time.
1st tank after mod:

My 2014 E250 BT sedan was park for 20 months and with good batteries and fresh DEF fired on 1st turn as well.
I am in warm climate thought.
Picked up my V6 Sprinter after modifications. Can't notice any performance difference, but took it for smog check on my way back and it measured 0 emissions.
They have new probe in NV for 10 days. No longer probe goes inside the pipe, but headphone-type probes measure the mixture outside the tip.

Will know more in about 3 days when my 2l diesel sedan will have modification done.
The 4-banger in sedan was displaying traction light when floored on 2nd gear on dry asphalt, so any noticeable difference will either do a burnout, or not light the traction.

Lately MB sedans from 1980's are selling for more than those 2008-2012 models.
I am not talking about classic cars, but daily drivers.
I think OM651 engine is real marvel and sounds like Stuttgart will hold on sending us its younger, OM654 brother.
So the 60 mpg luxury sedans will not have much competition.
I mean I am saving for 2.5 seconds Lucid, but nobody wants to give me 2nd mortgage at 60% of house value level.
Since this occurred right after the AEM was completed you are either very lucky to be covered by the AEM extended warranty or, more likely, they did not complete the AEM properly.
IMHO, it seems odd that multiple injectors would all start throwing codes at once.
