There is no double dipping. If a previous owner makes a claim then their award is deducted from the current owner’s award.

I wonder under what circumstances previous owners can make a claim. As they don’t own the car and won’t suffer the modifications I don’t see how they’re deserving of any compensation. Maybe if they sold the car after the settlement announcement?

2012 GL 350
So guys, help me with a strategy. I bought a 2012 GL 350 back in 2013 from the original owner. I still own the car, but earlier this year I brought it with me to Finland. I still have a US address since this is a temporary move (3 years), but I have to believe that when I registered the car here, that they let PA (at the least) and perhaps DOT, that the car was exported. I assume that I can still get some money, but is installing this new hardware required to get the check?

I don’t think you’ll get anything without the car being modified on US soil. Perhaps if you come back before the deadline.

How to proceed with repairs?

Dealer says I need both NOx sensors replaced at a cost of around $1500. Should I wait and see if I can get them replaced under a new warranty as a result of the settlement?

What damage may result from letting the check engine light remain on?

Also, I plan on doing the delete eventually. I suppose I could do it now but I’m thinking I should keep it stock until the scandal blows over. In the mean time I’m going to change the oil every 3000 miles to keep it from sludging.

I drove my 2014 with dead box sensor for nearly 5000 miles. My only issue was DEF fluid after refill would not reset. So my suggestion keep the DEF refilled every 5000 miles or less.

just wondering.... why do you need to change your oil every 3000 miles?

From what I’ve read, the EGR dirties the oil which leads to the known sludge issue that will eventually kill the engine.

Depending on who you talk to and read about on the internet......some where by 3000 miles, while others have no problem running the 10,000 miles. But then it also depends on what type of driving one is doing. If it's all stop and go city driving, I would be changing it at 3000-5000. But if it was all highway miles the 10,000 is fine. Just depends. But I send my oil off and have it tested, other's here will swear up and down they know better than oil samples and that 3000 miles is the hard line.

It is not the EGR but blowby is the reason why the oil is dirty and causing sludge. EGR will clog your intake manifold.

In what system does this blowby occur?

Blowby is leakage of combustion gases between a piston and the cylinder wall into the crankcase

Right but would the EGR compound the problem by introducing even more soot?

From my experience not really. I tried to delete EGR, then change oil and the oil was dark black after just few miles...

Certainly removing the EGR wouldn’t make it worse.

That’s true. Removing EGR definitely help the engine breathe better and keep the intake manifold clean.

Typical of ANY diesel. What does this have to do with the EGR?

You’re right. Lawsuit has nothing to do with EGR. Back to the topic.
The modification will be mandatory or optional? Daimler will be installing new copper catalyst. Is this additional to DPF? Does it mean that after the modification bluetec car will have catalyst, DPF and SCR?

There already is an existing Catalyst. This new copper catalyst is to replace that existing catalyst. SCR (Select Catalyst Reduction). The current Catalyst sits between the 2 NOX sensors. The DPF sits before the 1st NOX Sensor. The DPF has nothing to do with the lawsuit. The primary issue here is that SCR system is not functioning at all times. EPA/CARB claims that MB cheated by turning off the DEF fluid injection during certain temperature ranges and claim they were wrong to do that. However MB claims they were/allowed to do that. Note that on gasoline/petro powered vehicles, the EGR system is also turned off as well under certain temperatures as well. So not sure why there is a double standard between diesel and gasoline/petro power vehicles.

Thanks for explanation. Whats the difference between existing SCR and new copper SCR? They can just reprogram ECU to inject DEF fluid all the time, what's the reason for SCR replacement?

I have now been contacted by Hagens Berman. Was wondering if anyone moved forward with their instructions already.

What were the instructions?

Did you contact them first?

2009 GL 320
Don't know if this link has been posted yet: https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/daim...t-faqs#lessees

I have a 2009 GL 320 and it shows that potentially the new AEM component updates will be:
  • Software Update
  • New copper catalyst, DOC, DPF
  • New NOx sensor
  • New ECU
  • New coolant thermostat (existing part A6422001915)
Expected to be available on or around November 2021, after approval.

So new DPF I guess?

I wonder how slow or inefficient our cars will become after the "fix."
