Thanks for the detailed thread everyone. My understanding is that this applies to the U.S. Anyone know if us folks in Canada will receive anything?

I have received a notification in the mail saying the emission warranty has been extended and gave me a sticker to stick on the warranty booklet. No action needed.

How many extra years? Any specific details on which components?

I’ve rec’d nothing from MB. It’ll be interesting what they do for me since I bought a factory 3 year extended warranty.

This doesn’t make sense. The point of the extended warranty is to incentivize people to get the modifications and to keep the modifications functional.

Do you have more information?

In Process of Buying 2015 GL 350

Happy February to All -

I’m new here and in the process of purchasing the GL 350. Buying a 5/100K extended warranty with it. Current mileage in the low 40K’s. 1 previous owner.

Can anybody shine any light as to how this settlement will affect me. Do I qualify to get the settlement? Is the extended warranty a waste considering the settlement warranty I’m hearing about MB is attaching to this model post the settlement? Any insights would be much appreciated for sure.

thank you in advance!

I think we will all know at the same time. As far as the extended warranty goes, I bought the 3 year version and plan on keeping my car at least until it expires.

I would get the extended warranty. I like you bought my 2014 ML 350 Blue used. I have had the Oil cooler replaced, NOX sensors replaced all covered by the extended warranty.

I believe the 3 year is 100k miles, don’t have the paperwork handy. Just a note, I wouldn’t consider an after market plan.

@gkgeiger and @primbesy , I bought my vehicle from a used car dealer and I bought the after market plan. Got no complaints at all with the plan. I have used the extended warranty twice at the dealer (NOX and Oil cooler), once at a European Car specialist (Engine and transmission Mount). Only paid $100 deductible each time.

I'm glad you have had a good experience with your warranty. In a previous life I was a Service Director at a GM dealership. I just know that people that bought the factory warranty were generally happier than the ones that bought aftermarket. The MB extended warranty is an extension of the 4yr 48k mile factory warranty. At 45K miles MB paid the dealer $7k to to replace the DPF and all NOX sensors on my '15 ML 250. At that time I bought the factory warranty because I love my ML and want to keep it as long as I can. Good luck to you and it will be interesting to see what come of this lawsuit.

I’m buying my GL through VRoom who also offered an extended warranty protection deal I couldn’t refuse. Since they have a rigorous inspection process prior to selling their vehicles, the extended warranty is discounted as long as I purchase at the time of vehicle purchase. $100 deductible also and all for $3K. However, I’m a skeptic by nature until proven otherwise, so ask how it works out several years from now. Knock-knock.

C'mon Mercedes I just need this 2-ton paperweight fixed.. I'm stuck with it not being able to drive far and I was told it has to come into MB under its own power.

Anyone have luck bugging MBNA?

The settlement has pretty harsh penalties for warranty denials (after the "fix") for emission issues.

If you ever encounter any resistance from the dealer for emission fixes, just speed dial the law firm..

There is very small chance Biden Administration could influence the final result. Because they hate pollution company's with the passion .The Judge still did not confirm the final approval on the whole settlement from what I hear. I would not hurt for everyone to shoot an email to the senators to request Buyback option for the vehicle owners .

Consumer, environmental groups ask Congress to press DOJ and EPA to expedite ongoing Mercedes diesel emissions investigations

April 3, 2019/inPress releasepress releasepress_releasesPress ReleasesApril 3, 2019

Nearly three years have passed since investigation of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz diesel emissions systems; consumers left without recourse on their vehicles

Media contact: National Consumers League – Carol McKay, carolm@nclnet.org, (412) 945-3242 or Taun Sterling, tauns@nclnet.org, (202) 207-2832

Washington, DC – Leading consumer and environmental groups today sent letters to U.S. House Energy & Commerce and Senate Commerce Committees’ leadership, urging them to inquire about the status of pending Department of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency investigations into the diesel emissions systems of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz marketed its BlueTEC diesel vehicles as “the world’s cleanest and most advanced diesel,” but has been accused of equipping them with cheat devices that result in dangerously high levels of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, far exceeding what is legal under U.S. federal and state regulations. The DOJ and EPA have held Volkswagen and Fiat Chrysler accountable for similar allegations, but there has been no update on their investigation into Mercedes since it reportedly began in 2016.

VW and Fiat have instituted buybacks and repairs to address the pollution, while compensating owners and lessees. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Daimler vehicles are potentially polluting the environment while their owners await the outcome of the DOJ and EPA investigation.

The letter was signed by Center for Auto Safety, Consumer Action, Consumer Federation of America, National Consumers League, Safe Climate Campaign and Sierra Club.

“Compared to the repercussions Volkswagen faced after admitting to strikingly similar allegations, which included severe fines and mandatory buybacks or repairs to tainted diesel vehicles, nothing has been done to hold Mercedes-Benz accountable in the U.S.,” wrote the groups. “Just as Congress played an important oversight role in Volkswagen’s dieselgate, it can do the same in bringing Mercedes-Benz to justice. We urge you to aid U.S. consumers by compelling the DOJ and EPA to provide an update into their nearly three-year-old investigation and, if appropriate, take action against Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz for violating U.S. law.”

The groups also referred to a letter Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) sent to the DOJ in February last year; the groups’ letter noted that no update has been provided and no action has been taken.

A full copy of the letter can be found here.

Thanks for sharing this info. I emailed the law firm and Shelby Smith copied and pasted the information from their website, with the exception of mentioning Bosch will pay out $300. Otherwise, the firm did not have any new information and said that, “We are still waiting for the court to enter the consent decree.”

Spoke to Shelby again the judge who is waiting for this consent decree is retiring and taking his time filling out the final paperwork recommended that we all reach out to our state senators and Congress people to put pressure on the New Jersey federal judge Sullivan.

Delaying not bad at all?
Which means MB has to provide extended emission warranty on cars 1 year older. Which is more costly for them of course!
If the judge add something like all emmision related issues before modification will be under warranty as well, then the deal become even better!
