Angry 2014 E250 Code P205B Temp Sensor

70K miles on my 2014 E250 diesel. Today cel and code P205B ( temp sensor inside DEF tank). Does anyone have experience with this? would this possibly
be covered under EPA warranty?

Thanks for any info.

Not knowing your location, we can only guess what's your EPA warranty?
It might be and better be as from what I hear MB don't sell small parts for DEF tank and you have to buy whole unit for hefty $$$.
That might also require SCN coding.

Thanks. Going to dealer tomorrow AM. Will report back when dealer lets me know.

I did read the emission warranty that came with my car. According to what I’ve read the temperature/ level sensor is covered. Will see what dealer says.

The dealer just called, the repair is covered. They are going to replace the entire tank and the car will be ready on Monday.

The service advisor said my MB extended warranty covered the repair. I will double-check that on Monday.

GOOD FOR YA.
When you pick the car, can you get more info about that extended warranty?
To my knowledge sender unit is separate from the tank, so what is the reason for replacing the tank?

I will ask my SA Monday about the repair. I was surprised when he said they were replacing the entire tank, my tank is fine just the temp sensor failed. Also happy the part is readily available. Of course, the part is probably available due to the high failure rate.

Just picked up my E250. Service advisor said they tried to get repair covered under emissions warranty, but was not covered. The Mercedes Benz extended warranty did pay for the repair. I bought the warranty when I purchased the car.

They replaced just the internal sensor and preheater found inside the DEF tank. Part # 212-471-05-75.

Not sure why emsissions would not cover this, I read the warranty that came with the car and the temp sensor is called out as covered.

When I scanned the car with my icarsoft I got code P205B. The dealer came up with code 205B98.

Let hope the new parts have been improved over the failed parts.

I wonder howcome extended warranty paid for something that should be covered by original warranty.
But you are happy driver now and that's what count.

FYI, the DEF heater repair kit with that part number costs around $550. I can't find the installation instructions in WIS, but from the EPC diagram, it looks like it might go in from above (e.g., inside the trunk without removing the tank).

OP: Did you see what the price listed for the parts was? Where are you located (cold climate?)

Unfortunately, the dealer did not list any prices. The repair was covered under the Mercedes extended warranty I purchased when I bought the car.

I am located in KY. We have some cold winters however I don't drive the car all the time during the winter, I also have an older 4runner that I drive.

Not sure but I don't think the repair can be made from the topside. I think the tank has to be dropped down to access the heating element and sensor.
