Oil level changing

I have a 2007 e320 bluetec. I get a oil change around every 5,000 miles and I still have 2,000 left and the “check oil level” warning came on and so I checked it and there was a little oil on the dip stick and so I wiped it off and put it back in and when I check it again right after, there wasn’t any oil on the dipstick. So after work I was going to grab some oil and just check it to see if anything has changed or anything and there was oil on the minimum line this time. I checked those all without driving the car the first to checks were within 5 min and the 3rd check was like 8-9 hours later. But then the next day after I got oil I went to check the oil level again before putting more (cause this had happened before and I put oil in and the oil was at the max so I was just making sure this time) and it was still at the minimum and so I check it just to be safe and this time the dipstick was at the max on one side of the dipstick and the other side was like half way. What could be causing this? Do I have an oil leak somewhere? There hasn’t been any oil puddles under my car. Help me
please and thank you

This is the last time I checked it. (I dipped it ones and this is each side of the dipstick

MB puts orings on top of dipstick and when it holds well, cooling temperatures will create small vacuum, who will suck the oil up the tube, creating false readouts if you don't wipe it and recheck again.
When I want precise reading- I pull the dipstick couple cm up when parking the car for the night and in the morning -push it all the way in and then read the level.
Also bear in mind that by pulling and pushing dipstick in/out few times, you are smearing oil all over the tube, what might leave marks where they don't belong.
BTW napkins are cheaper for the job, than white gloves.

so are you saying that it’s just a false reading or is there something wrong that I need to get looked at..? Is there a way to fix this? I appreciate you answering my question. Btw I get those gloves for free.

You need precise reading before jumping into any conclusions.

so I did as you said I should. I’m not sure if 2nd and 3rd check helps or not. But I did not drive it for those 2 days.

03/20/20

03/22/20 first check since leaving the dipstick up a little.

2nd check Put the dipstick all the way in

3rd check after car idled for about 25 min...

3rd check.

So the 2nd check shows level 1/2 between the marks.
All other checks are the mess.
Per old school that would be perfect oil level to drive on, but MB level sensor tend to be on sensitive side. If the light comes on, add 1/2 l.

Since you saved white gloves on last test, can you send me a pack?
