E350 Coupe Passenger Side Dimming Mirror
Hi,
Could use some help.
I have a new 2010 E350 Coupe, P1 Package, Interior Appearance Package (wood steering wheel, shifter knob, etc.), and AMG Sport Package.
Bought the car in March, has 3500 miles on it. At 1800 miles, the passenger side mirror jammed in the down-rotated position upon backing up. Could not correct. Took it to the dealer, they first said they had to special order the mirror from Germany, then, found one later in stock, mirror replaced.
However, I could swear the passenger side mirror auto-dimmed. I feel this way because it was specifically apparent to me when driving at night the first time that all the brightness in all the mirrors were the same, and I think they had that auto-dim "blue" tint in all the mirrors.
The car is currently back at the dealer, and now the parts, service, and tech people are disagreeing on whether the passenger side mirror is auto-dimming or not. Service person is advocate to exhaust all possibilities, techs and parts are not.
So, can anybody please help me out and answer whether A-All E350 coupes have all auto dimming mirrors, or B-NO E350 coupes have passenger side auto-dim mirrors, or C- Some do and some don't (and if you know the trim level required for the auto-dim, please let me know).
Since MB doesn't have the answer, thought I'd ask the pros here. Thanks!

Interesting that you raised this. Just like you, in the last six months I own the car I always had the impression all mirrors were auto-dimming until I looked at them closely two weeks ago and found the passenger side mirror is different. Mine is equipped P2 package, lighting package, appearance package, wood package, multicontour and perforated front seats, and etc.
I then checked with wife's 2010 GL350, the same.
I did notice the dimmed mirrors and complimented about them to my wife a couple times. But I think it doesn't matter for the passenger side since I failed to notice it actually isn't dimmed after driving them for six months. This is probably why they don't bother.

I have an E550c with P2 and noticed the first night that the passenger side didn't dim. Not because I was bothered with glare, but because i've only own Japanese cars before and they always dimmed both. It's interesting that Mercedes-Benz does it this way, but it hasn't been a problem for me.

if you go to the canadian site for mercedes benz which is mercedesbenz.ca, it lists the e350 as having both driver and passenger dimming mirrors. not sure if this is for north america or just canada.

Dimming mirrors work by applying current to the mirror. If you pull off the positive to the actual glass it will no longer auto dim. Remember that there are 2 positive, one for heated and one for auto dimming, they will also share a common ground so do not remove this wire.
Even though the connecter is insulated, tape it to the incoming wires to prevent any shorting on condensation from getting to the connector you just removed.
Should be a simple 5 minute job.
