I would like to report...26 MPG!

Granted my car only has 886 miles on it, but after every fill up i make sure I reset all counters and trip meters. As of today my 400+++hp, technological tour-de-force is averaging 26 mpg in mixed rural, city driving. A few trips down the freeway but nothing long term. 26 mpg! I'm VERY impressed with this car. I'm 52 and have owned a lot of different cars, some pricey some not so pricey. This is my second Benz. This new E550 C is absolutely, hands down the best car I've ever owned. I've fallen in love with a piece of machinery!

I just averaged 29.5 on a 500 mile round trip from DC to the Jersey shore averaging 70-75 mph wherever possible which was most all the time. At the start of the trip the car had 500 miles on it.

This is really no big deal since my 2008 Z06 Corvette would do the same aind it had a pushrod 505 hp 7.2 Liter engine. Both cars have a really high overdrive gear. In the Vette it was 1:2. I don't know what the Benz has but the rpms at highway speeds are approximately the same when in the highest gear and the torque convertor is locked up.

All this fun and fuel efficiency too!

I'm getting average 19mpg around town - some city/mostly suburban; 27-28 on highway trips leaving from the house, which requires driving through the city to get the highway; 30-32 strictly highway driving at speeds hovering around 65-70.

Highways are frustrating with these cars, eh? If it were legal, you get the feeling the car just wants to be let loose a whole lot more when you get up to the legal limit or whatever the traffic flow is doing. Autobahn is the answer, I guess!

I had my 550 up to the cutoff at 130 mph on a rural interstate with no traffic around. The car is still pulling hard when it hits the engine speed limiter. The car is still really smooth and tracking arrow straight at that speed but I guess the cutoff is for legal reasons since the tires that come with the car are H rated which is a 130mph sustained max rating.

I wonder what these cars are limited to in Germany where 130 is the slow lane on the autobahn.

I'll bet these cars will pull to 150+ with no problem: not that I'd drive that fast on public roads. I agree with 1 MB: these vehicles are great. The wife likes it better than her previous SLK55 AMG and she loved that car.
Handling (in Sport) and performance are much better than expected. Brakes are also good:glad they increased the front rotor size for '12.
We ordered the optional performance tires, which are the Z rated Dunlop Sport Maxx.

With less than 900 miles on the odometer the mileage has been about 19 in stop and go (30 mph average) and about 27 on the highway, but varying speeds (45-70) because of traffic and heavy rain.

I thought about getting better tires but I'm kind of enjoying the quiet of the standard tires. My experience with high performance tires is they are really loud. The Goodyear F1 run flats on my C6 Z06 were loud to the point of being annoying if I had the radio off and especially if the windows were down.

My best guess on top speed would be about 170 or so based on the available horsepower and the aerodynamic efficiency of the body design.

What you never know unless you try it is if at really high speeds the air ducting to the engine cooling and intake system gets disrupted to the point of limiting the performance.

Our Z06 tire's were very noisy: the SLK55 less so, but can't hear the tires on the E. Maybe a function of better sound deadening (?).

Good point about the cooling and intake!
