HD Radio Sucks

At least in my wife's new 2012 E350 Coupe in the DFW area. It sounds worse than satellite...compressed beyond belief, really tinny sounding and lots of artifacts on high pitches. As an audiophile, I find this unacceptable and highly disappointing.

Is it like this elsewhere or on different hardware?

Sucks because on the car, you can't change the default and it always selects HD. You can revert back to standard, but once you change the channel, it goes back to HD.

I don't understand your problem. There are 10 presets available, in each band selection, which will tune to the exact station you previously set in my 2012 e550. Is the radio in your E350 different?.

There have been so many complaints about HD Radio, that a couple of law firms are soliciting consumer complaints:

I'll give it a shot again, but IIRC, it would just tune back to the HD feed even on preset.

Tried it just now. No luck.

Tune local station that has HD available. Use wheel to disable HD. Save to preset. Navigate to different preset or station. Press previously saved preset. It still tunes to HD.

Read p 145 in the Command operating instructions. That's how it is supposed to work.

Right...and it's complete rubbish. Surely I'm not the only one that can't stand this.

HD radio certainly isn't perfect (at least not in my experience) but I think it's pretty good.Good sound quality (when you have a good signal) and extra programming. My most listened to station around home is an "HD2" simulcast of an AM station that I like. The sound quality is far superior to anything you'd get from AM.

I can't see the point of sat radio..if you want news ,tune into your local AM station. If you want music, choose the cd player,built-in media storage,IPOD connectivity and other things that you can use.

Zero Commercials, Being able to hear the new music the "kids" are listening to, plus there's lots of other programming that you can't get anywhere else, all in crystal clear no static sound.. All for 9 bucks a month!

AM Radio? C'mon man..

That said, this guy is talking about "HD Radio" which is different than Satellite Radio.

HD Radio is free, read about it here.

My point was there is an abundance of options if you want to listen to your "kids" music and that AM is best for news and other monotainment..

I agree, I have the same problem. It should allow you to shut off HD permanently without having go through the menu to shut it off when going back to the same station again and again. The main problem is the station I listen to keeps switching between HD and normal which changes the volume so it sounds like crap.

Instead of complaining about HD radio in general, go to the dealer and tell them you are having serious reception issues. If you are within 60 miles of the radio tower, you should always get the HD Signal. My E550 Sedan pulls HD stations from nearly 90 miles away in the hills of Pittsburgh. You could have a bad ground from the factory for your antenna. It happens more often than it should.

I have been really impressed with mine so far.
