Question What do you think of the handsfree phone sound?

It's one of the only things I'm "less" happy about.

the sound is somewhat muffled & "metallic".

Anyone feel the same & know if something can be done about it?
(software update maybe?)

FYI: I have an iphone 4

Don't know how much value my reply has, you being where you are and me being where I am, but:

My received audio quality is excellent. Any problems seem to lie with the equipment of the person with whom I'm speaking.

Using my Samsung phone, I had to break myself of the silly habit of speaking louder than normal on the phone when in the car; everyone complained I was distorting my audio. Since I reduced my voice to normal conversational level everyone says it sounds great - as good as or better than the home phone.

I believe there are some adjustments you can make in the Comand menu relating to the phone's audio function. Perhaps they would help you.

you are right about not having to talk loud. people can hear me just fine.
it's just the quality of the sound that *I* hear that is not "great".
I don't think it's the iphone, as in my previous car (c-class) i did not have this problem.
especially the metallic sound bothers me (it's like a bad mp3 if u know what i mean..).

Well I think I know what you mean. Sounds like either clipped "speech quality" or perhaps muddy (muffled) audio rather than full width or hi fidelity audio.

I do know transmitted and received volume can be adjusted in the Comand phone sub menu. I think it's Phone > Bluetooth phones > Select your phone > Options > either transmitted or received volume. But if I recall correctly, Mercedes says to proceed with caution, as you may do more harm than good changing the default settings.

This is all spelled out in the Comand manual that should have come with your vehicle in addition to the owner's manual.

You could also try hooking up a different phone and see if it gives you the same poor received audio. If that's the case, then definitely needs a trip to the dealer to sort it out. This can be done without de-authorizing your current phone.

Assuming there are no adjustments to be made in the phone itself, if all else fails, my next stop would be the dealer service dept.

If you get it sorted, would like to know for future reference. My Samsung's days are numbered.

Wish I could be more helpful. Perhaps others here can be. You may also try posting this over in the W212 forum. Same Comand system and there tend to be more posters there than here.

1st service A done.
They say they did a software update, but honestly i don't notice any improvement.
Maybe i'm just too picky when it comes to the sound quality...

I think its ok for what its to be used for. I do not use it much but it works well. I have an ecab and I have used it with the top down and it still picked my voice up and was heard cleary on the other end. So all and all its above avg for me given some of the other cars I have had that had it.

My 2008 Range Rover Sport had a great quality with my iphone 3G. Most of my calls were to other iPhones 3GS. With my E350 coupe I've used the same iphone 3G and quality was not as good as the RR. I now have the BlackBerry Torch and see no appreciable improvement.

I've come to realize it's just not that great.

People don't seem to hear me well. I'll check my volume settings (I may have played with them...) I'm using an iPhone 4s. COMAND and 4s have latest firmware.
