Hi all -
This is my first New England winter without an all wheel drive car. I think I should get winter tires (with rims so my normal ones don't get marked up in the change process). Has any one purchased a package recently that you would recommend? I've never put non-factory rims on any of may cars, so I don;t know what to be wary of.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Check out Tire Rack - I used them to get wheels and tires for my E55 several years ago - they mounted Blizarks on an nice looking but not expensive rim and they worked wonderfully for winter use. Lasted 4 winter seasons and never failed to get me through some tough snow/ice.

Just don't wait too long since stock in your size might be limited. I picked up a set of the new Michelin xi3 tires for my BMW when they first came to Tire Rack in early October - and they are already sold out for the season!

Hi tgerno,

I don't have the coupe, but I have the 2012 E550 sedan and I recently purchased a winter wheel & tire package from Tire Rack. I wanted to downsize and go with a 17" set for winter but I found out that a 17" wheel will not fit over the front brakes of the 2012 (even though Tire Rack lists a 17" package as available for the 2012). MB went with a larger front brake rotor for 2012 so the only option I had was to go with an 18" set.

I bought the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D in 245/40-18 on Sport Edition F11 wheels. We've had some snow over the past week and I can say they ride quite well, decent steering feel and fairly low noise.

Tire Rack delivered as promised; I placed the order on Oct 18th and they were shipped to my door on the 24th.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Snow tires
Hi.

I have a 2010 e550 coupe and live in Nj. Last winter we had no snow but the prior year I drove my coupe several times with no issues.

I actually might be interested in selling the set if you are interested.

I have amg wheels, tire pressure sensors and the snow tires with low miles. The rims are the current amg wheels.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks,

Ken

Hey Ken,

What are you selling the winter setup for? im located in NY and if the price is right you have a local buyer.

Thanks

Hi j,

I have a set of AMG rims (same rims that come on 2010 e550), Pirelli winter zottozero, tire pressure sensors. Everything purchased jan 2011.

I would be looking to get around $2500 for the complete set.

Thanks,

Ken

It took me year, but I did finally buy a set of winter tires and rims from TireRack. I went with the Blizzack WS70. I haven't installed them yet, but the ordering process was pretty simple. Next challenge is replacing the Pirelli's that came with it for non-winter driving.
