Recently, when I filled up the gasoline, the gas nozzle kept "click" "click" "click". That means I cannot fully depress the nozzle trigger. I had to do it very slow in order to fill up the gas tank.

I phoned the dealership this afternoon, and he told me it happened to some of the E class (not sure about the other classes). He suggested that I should pull up the trigger half inch from the gasoline filling inlet and the problem will be solved.

Anyone has this issue or he was just BS? My car is still under warranty, what is the problem of the car?

 

My 2012 E550 has no such problem.

I suspect your trouble was with the vapor recovery/overflow system on the gas pump. I have had the same problem on other cars particularly when in California.

His suggestion to raise the filler nozzle up some is a fix at the expense of partially defeating the vapor recovery/overflow system.

 

Maybe, I should take it to the dealership and let then diagnose the problem. The car is still under warranty, it is no harm for doing this.

The only problem is how long I have to wait for a new appointment.

 

As in California, that problem happens in a couple of my cars. The gas pump nozzles are sensitive to a good seal to the gas tank opening, as it is afraid that gasoline vapor will leak to the environment and destroy the universe.

Some gas pump nozzles are getting old on its rubber seal, or the gas station calibrates the nozzles too sensitive for any leak, or some nozzle designs which the gravity would tilt them down in an angle that it is easier to break the seal, etc., etc.

It did happen on my E Coupe when I first got it; one gas station attendent helped me to push the gas nozzle a little further into the gas tank opening and used his hand to ensure the gas nozzle rubber has a complet seal to the gas tank opening. That solved the problem in my case.

Yet, occasionally, some gas pump nozzles had a really banged-up old rubber seal, which no matter how I tried it would still give me the problem. In that case, I just reminded myself not to go back to the same gas station and use the same nozzle again.

The gas station near my house has the new gas nozzles. I have no problem filling gas to my other cars. Usually, I insert the gas nozzles all the way down to the gas tank filler inlet to make sure no gasoline will spill out.

I tried different nozzles but the problem still exists. Anyway, I already made an appointment with the dealership next week, I will let them diagnosis the problem. Fortunately, this car still has factory warranty, otherwise, if something needs to be replaced, it is gonna to cost me a lot of money.

I will report how it goes.

Just returned from the dealership today. They went to one of the nearby gas station and filled in the gas. No problem was found during re-fueling. No "click" "click" "click" were using the gas nozzles.

They concluded that the gas station that I used (which is near my house) were having the bad gas nozzles.

 

what about if you turn the nozzle, have u tried that yet?

 

No not yet. I will try this when the fuel tank is low.

 

you're likely putting the nozzle too far into the tank (which is also what your dealer told you). i remember when i would fill up my dads x5 i would have this problem. so far havent experienced it in my e350, but I've only filled up once. i think its normal. just pull it out a little.

It has to do with the type of pumps used and the way MB tanks seal w/pump. Had the exact same issue w/my CLK and still have it on c207. Some stations it's fine, others it's a hassle every time no matter how it's positioned. My advice is just find a local station that works for you.

 

Okay, I will try it next time. I use Shell in the past 10 years from this gas station near my house. It is strange because I have no issue pumping the gas to my other vehicles.

In normal practice, I insert the gas nozzles all the way to the gas inlet from the vehicle to prevent any gasoline spillage in case of overfill. My old W203 had no problem at all. I think it is most likely this C207 does not accept this gas station gas nozzle.

I have this problem and there is no fix from Mercedes. They have chosen to not address it and as time goes on and more gas stations change to the new nozzles, I fear we will have fewer and fewer places to get fuel. Mercedes does not care.
