Stage 2 question..

I did a stage 1 EC upgrade and I have removed the resonator. Car sounds and runs great, but I want more power so I want to go to stage 2 and put the down pipes with one more ECU upgrade.
How loud will the car be with the downpipes? Although I want the car to growl, I don't want it to lose its MB class and be obnoxious and loud.
Will it be much louder than now or same or different?

Are you planning to also upgrade the transmission when you go stage 2, to avoid transmission slippage and for it handle the extra stress you're placing on the transmission, or will you do that a little later? Remember, the transmissions in our non-AMG cars are not built as heavy-duty as the MCT-type transmissions in the AMG models.

"Obnoxious and loud" is of course completely subjective. If you start her up and don't wake the neighborhood or your neighbors don't come running out to complain, then it's not too loud. :-) That's a joke of course.

I've heard several AMGs (C63, E63, and SL63) after they were all tuned stage 2 and had all the exhaust system work done and everything else beefed-up. I wouldn't consider any of them excessively loud or obnoxious sounding. I would consider them still very refined sounding given the amount of hp / torque they were now all capable of pumping out.

I wasn't planning on doing any transmission work as I know nothing about what would be needed to be done. I'll have to do some research.
As far as sound, I want her to sound tough and mean but still be classy!

I think you'll like the sound after stage 2. A bit more aggressive than what you have now, but still very nice. Not what I would call harsh at all. Again, that's just my subjective opinion as everyone has different tastes in what is acceptable to them.

Definitely do your research on the transmission upgrade though. The last thing you want to do is end up with a blown transmission down the road in three to six months after doing all these other upgrades. Four or even five grand for a good transmission upgrade is a whole lot cheaper than having to replace your transmission at $20K to $25K.

Enjoy your ride.

Unless you're consistently racing your car or if you drive like a BMW driver (a.k.a an a$$) then you shouldn't have to worry about transmission upgrades. During normal daily driving your transmission won't be stressed any more than stock.

Absolutely true. If you drive like a rational human being, who just happens to occasionally like to drive, when traffic, weather and road conditions all permit, like a more typical European Mercedes owner on the Autobahn (fast but not reckless), then there is no need to upgrade the transmission in most cases. However, I would bet a good portion of some of the folks buying a used Mercedes and then immediately modding it to the max may, I repeat may, tend to fall into one of the two categories you described. Under either of those two scenarios, they'll need a transmission upgrade, along with better brakes, which seem to always be an after-thought, and lots of cash to cover repairs and tickets.

Fortunately I don't fall into those two categories. I have never had a super sports car nor done ANY modification to a car! My wife thinks that at 46, I'm having a mid life crisis, and that's why I'm modding the car! Perhaps she is right!
So, no, I don't plan on racing the car or driving stupidly. I just want to be able to drive fast and powerful if/when I feel like it. I also like the GROWL of a sports car and hence the down tubes. I'm planning on going with Eurocharged upgrades.
Have any of you done this mod to your A or C 207? What do you think?

I have stage 2 from kleemann with the downpipes. The stock mufflers do a great job of quieting the exhaust with the smaller resonators removed and catless down pipes. The gains are very noticeable and worth it.
