Project E550 Coupe Sleeper
HELP!! The more I try and learn the less I know.
I'm trying to put together my dream MB.
First. Please no arguments about can a MB coupe be a sleeper.
Step 1, wheels and tires. Step 2, computer mods. Step 3, the little things.
I've been researching the right wheels for this car for 3 months with no luck. My dream wheel would be a 18 or 19 inch rim, AMG looking, preferably split 5 spoke Gunmetal, staggered fitment so I can fit a 275 or 285 on the rear. I know, pretty particular. Does anyone have any idea what wheel/offset I can use. Please be specific. Please, someone help me make my dreams come true.

I'd get with one of the board sponsors like Need4Speed, Velos, etc. and I'm pretty sure they can help you with what options you have available to you.
As far as step 2, I did the OE tune and it's awesome. So you could look into that one. I believe they have a sale going on through the end of the year.

There are several examples of wheels / tires in various sizes/styles/looks on this forum. I went with 255/35-19 on 19x8.5 ET40 for the front and 285/30-19 on 19x9.5 ET45 for the rear:

Ok. I want your car.. Finding an aftermarket wheel isn't the challenge. Finding an AMG rim that fits the bill is the challenge. Remember "sleeper". It looks like all the AMG and AMG tribute rims (it's what I call knock offs), come with offsets of 35, 38, 45. So I was thinking 18x8.5 +38 and maybe a small spacer, then 18x9.5 +45. Also thinking of going with a taller sidewall. 245/40/18 and 275x35/18. Possibly 255/40/18 and 285/35/18.

Just change the E550 badge to a E350 lol. JK. Or debadge it entirely. I always initially think debadged cars are of the lower tier. Cause they usually are.
I feel like the sleeper route is to leave the exterior stock and upgrade the engine? Or maybe put some 17's on it?
Just curious, what's the appeal to having a sleeper themed car? It seems like most people do the opposite.

Agreed. The E550 Coupe bone stock is automatically a sleeper! Best thing keeping that in mind is simply a Stage 1 ECU tune to bring the power to 500+HP and keep everything else bone stock.

Why a sleeper? I'm an older banker that visits clients. Also love the idea of suprising the occasional BMW.

The grill change will make it look similar to facelift models so still in line with sleeper. Awesome on going with the ECU tune! Look forward to reading about your observations post tune. How goes the search for stock (or stock look) wheels? Great idea on putting more rubber.
Exactly. So trying to keep it looking stock, but I need stock looking wheels that will take more rubber. That's the challenge I'm having. Everything else is getting done. De-badged, ECU is pulled, will be sending it to Renntech shortly. Still debating the grill. I figure the car would look better without looking different. If that makes any sense at all.
