Odd Things Taking Place

My 2016 E400 has recently been acting up electronically. There have been several occasions recently where it says "no key present" even though the key is in my hand. I've been forced to remove the push button and insert the key in order to start the car. There have also been a number of weird events take place, like the passenger window rolling down all by itself or the button on the audio system not working. Have not yet addressed this with the dealer but wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this.

UPDATE - Just went out to pick up some lunch and got an error / warning on the dash suggesting that brake and tail lights were out, yet they were working fine. Sounds like it's time for a dealer visit.

I've had the "Key Not Detected" message on my E400 one time. I had to take out the Keyless Go button and start the car with the key. I then shut the car off and replaced the button, and all worked correctly.

My wife has had various window gremlins and also the Key Not Detected on her GLK. She has also had various door handle malfunctions. Always the issues can be "repaired" by using the lock then unlock buttons on the remote.

I have discussed this with our service advisor and he indicates that these are too common with all of the newer MB's, and that they really do not have a concrete fix. If a car repeatedly exhibits the same issue, then maybe they can find a cause. If it is a seemingly random issue, they say to just reset it with the remote buttons and move on.

Good luck.

I forgot about the door handle issue, had that too several times. Walk up to the door with the key in my pocket, touch the inside of the handle and nothing. Needed to physically press the unlock button on the remote to get in.

I'm going to chat with dealer about this but I'm not impressed with what the dealer told Steve.

First check you key batteries, I've seen a weak key battery make the keyless go system
go a little nuts.. Also there is a update for the keyless module that has helped this issue

I took the car to the dealer and they did some kind of update or re-load and so far (1 week) it's been ok.

When I had the no start problem except when manually inserting key, I swapped out the batteries in the keyless remote. Has worked fine ever since. The battery swap is piece of cake.

When the batteries in the remote are in need of changing, I get a message on the Command screen.

Good point. I did not know that. I never received the warning. Just changed the batteries. All well after doing so.

Rumor has it that key batteries last longer when they are taken out of the car. Originally left my keys in the car in my locked garage, the batteries would only last a few months. This doesn't seem to be an issue now that I take them out and store them elsewhere in the house.
