Navigation edition?

I guess i have to reply to my own post. it would appear no one here can offer an answer and when i spoke with the parts dept. at the dealers, they offered no solution if the dvd wasn't still in the player [which it is not in my case]
As i am preparing to take a 3500 mile cross country trip, i was forced to order the latest update [fortunately the 2016 edition was just released at the end of June] to the tune of $249 before tax. I expect to pick it up this week and am anticipating significant changes as I doubt my 2010 350 was ever updated before. wish me luck!

I picked up the update from my Mercedes dealer this morning. While the instructions with the DVDs suggested the car be stationary, the guy in "parts" assured me that the update would proceed while driving. I initiated the 1st disc while still at the dealer to ensure the software was compatible and made 2 stops where I turned off the car and restarted and the update continued on. I live about 40 minutes from the dealer and made it home with 40% of the 1st disc complete. It is continuing to update in my driveway at this moment.

thanks for the update mate. i didnt know that it will allow you to update whilst moving. all I heard is it takes several hours with your car engine running. interested to know of the difference.

encountered a glitch while it sat in my driveway updating. When i came back out the 2nd time the banner on the screen said "insert disc 2 of nav update, but it won't accept the disc or will it reject disc 1. I got on the phone with the dealer and he was unable to conjure a solution on the phone so i am taking it in in the morning to see if they can get it past this glitch.

Does your update work for 2011 E550 Cabriolet. Mine was never updated either.
$250 always seemed lot a lot and I've never had a problem yet with the old data.

It would be nice to know what the updates are. Based upon other vehicles I've had with Navi, the updates may not cover areas that are interest to you based upon your location nor are they comprehensive (kinda "catch as catch can").

So you could shut the car off and the update would continue from the point it stopped when you shut the car off (which is a very good thing to be able to do), but for some reason the update process froze when it came to insert disc 2. Did the rest of the command unit continue to function normally while the CD unit was frozen or was it just the CD unit that became non-responsive?

The good news is that I brought the car back to the dealer and they were able to rectify the problem in short order. In less than 10 minutes I had my car back with disc 1 out, disc 2 in and updating at 75%. It finished the update shortly before i arrived back home [about a 40 minute drive] and everything seems to be operational now.
as to function during the glitch: you could not access any functions by using the main controller or any of the buttons. However the steering wheel controls allowed me to choose and change satellite radio stations and the bluetooth phone hookup worked normally the whole time, except you didn't get the usual info in the main screen.
Anyway the service dept. at Monterey Mercedes did a fine job once they had the car in front of them and they didn't charge for this.

Iowa Boy, I have not noticed any difference as yet. It works fine, just as it did previously. I will know more when I set out across country.
