MB only sells complete locking mechanism you can search part 2079100561 or 2079108506 to view, need VIN (PM or post) to supply correct part # for your vehicle.

Warranty repair
I bought my 2013 C207 a week ago and I noticed the chrome peeling but Didn’t think much of it until… my little one slit his wrist open on one of them today really deep cut. Was really upset and have come across this thread. But I’m not the original owner and the car is now 7 years old. Is there anyway I can still have this done under warranty?

My wife sliced her finger on the peeling chrome handle as well. E550 was 2 years out of warranty, called mbusa, they replaced both for free. The cut was minor, no medical attention required.be careful, they are dangerous.

Really upsetting to see this is happening to others as well! My E350 is out of warranty too. Mind sharing what number you called (was it 1 (800) 367-6372 ?) and how were you able to get them to replace for free?

It has been a few years, but I think that was the number I called. I just told them the issue, and asked them to replace both handles since this is a dangerous situation. They asked my preferred dealer, made arrangements with dealer, then I called dealer for the appointment, and they replaced both no charge. I did have to sign a form releasing MB from future liability, which was fine, the injury was minor.

Thank you so much for taking the time!! I will call them soon and hopefully this gets handled. I find it disturbing that MB has not sent notices to owners to warn them about the situation!

Same happened to me! Was the last straw. My car is a 2010 E550 coupe and is out of warranty. Did it myself. I found a guy on eBay, mine were just the one handle (no button above). They were $50 a piece from an eBay reseller.

I followed the below video, just make sure you read a few of the relevant comments - namely:

"Thanks so much to the guy posting this video and to this comment! Same thing for me, though perhaps mine being a US spec 2010 E550 - the small metal U-clip is on the left head rest post (on both the driver and passenger seat). You'll want to GENTLY PRY that metal clip w/a flat head screw driver. JUST ENOUGH TO RELEIVE PRESSURE ON IT. Too much and it will fly off - which turns a relatively simple job into pain. (I accidentally did this.) While GENTLY RELIVING PRESSURE use your free hand to pull on the headrest at the same time. I did this by sitting in the back, and having the front seat in the rear exit position. The head rest then came off with not much force. Lastly I had the same issue mentioned with the cloth. Had to cut just a little bit on the corner to get enough removed to access the screws. As mentioned you wont see it when you put the trim back on."

Can’t thank you enough for sharing! I called that next day and they would do nothing to help. The service advisor at the dealership was also not helpful - had to call 3 times to get them to call back with information: $89.28 each part (special order), $240.88 per side to install.

If I can find the parts on eBay and do it myself would love to not give them another penny of my $$. Thank you again!!

Are you able to tell me which part # i'd need? My driver side chrome coating peeled off and sliced my finger pretty bad last summer. Called local MB and they had trouble finding the part. Maybe I should replace both.
Thanks.
