Servicing cost
Booked the car in today for its B1 service and asked how much it will cost. Was surprised by "it starts of at $1100 plus whatever the computer tells you it needs in parts". Not exactly cheap is it. Cest la vie.

Welcome to the fun of getting ripped off by a dealership. I always look for an independent mechanic that specializes in European cars. Typically BMW and Mercedes. Their prices are much more reasonable and I have found them more likely to talk to you about your car than just do what the dealership's protocol requires.
I see your in Sydney. I would assume a large city like that would have reputable independents.

I remember when I had the first oil change on my 06 Lexus SC430. It was $80. I was shocked. I was used to bringing my RAV 4 to the gas station for a $20 oil change.
This was nothing compared to the $300 oil change for my 13 E350 Cab.
When the SA said $300, I responded "what?" He said, "it's not a Toyota."
I learned my lesson. When I bought my 16 Audi A6 (fantastic car), I purchased the 4 year maintenance at a cheap $800+.

I don't know about the E350 but the E550 has a huge oil sump and takes like 8 quarts of oil (Mobil 1 synthetic at that).

David, I know you are right but my last car was a 991S and before that a 2012 C63 and I reckon they were both cheaper to service than this. No big deal but just seems high for a simple 3 litre engined motor car.

Dealer services for routine maintenance is indeed a bit high.
Last oil change, I took the coupe to the local Wheel Works where I get tires and alignments. . In addition to the oil/filter change (they went around the corner to the O-Reillys for the 8 qts of Mobil1 & Mobil oil filter), they checked the usual suspects. Total cost $130.
The extended warranty expires in November. I plan to take it to the local dealer for their "curtesy check".

Watch the dealer's service writer carefully.
The local MB writer insisted our 2012 E550 was due for a transmission oil change.
My wife argued with and told the writer he was wrong. I then checked the MB supplied manual and found she was correct: we have the M278 engine.
He was using the wrong engine designation.
