Wood trim peeling off.

My wood door trim is peeling off, tried to glue it back together but I ended up cracking it and now it looks even more unsightly. I see the part cost $200 which is pretty outrageous for a piece of plastic/fake wood. I have found used ones available for much less but they are the w212/sedan model - are they interchangeable parts?

I doubt the sedan parts can be used in the coupe/cabrio because their interiors are different.

FYI, the wood trim in your car should be genuine wood veneer, not plastic.

What year is your car? Has it been garaged or kept outside?

mine peeling also. all of it. because of heat. which is ridiculous because vehicle should have been built to handle the sun/heat. poor design to say the least.

you mind posting a pic and a rough how to? Did you fill the depth with some sort of filler? Which vinyl did you use? Thanks!

any info/photos on which vinyl you used and how it came out? My wood has cracked and peeled off on both doors and dash ...

Sorry, no photos at the moment. In the shop getting new brakes and tires. and a few other things

I used heat gun at first but found the adhesive was so dry it just came right off with plastic pryer
you have to remove all residue (with solvent or sanding)...anything uneven will show up through wrap.
If I had done it personally I would have removed door panel and removed trim panels . my shop just cut edges in place. it came out ok but wants to come up at edges sometimes.
You can certainly do all the prep work yourself but If you do not have experience with vinyl wrap; I would pay somebody who does.

BTW: Dash panels are all pressure clips. A plastic pry tool will pop them right out. Door panels have O-ring retainers that hold trim panel in ( you have to remove entire door panel to access them from inside). As far as center console and rear drink holder cover, mine weren't peeling so I left alone. You can wrap around shifter, but ashtray cover would be a *****. And drink holder cover in back, no way you could wrap that (that I know of)

I will post some pics when I get the car back. And ask what kind of vinyl he used. It was carbon fiber pattern he had already.
Best of luck!

For those who just have peeling (no cracking), what about 3M double sided extreme tape? This stuff should last quite a while. And if/when it fails, you can just peel it off and stick more on there.
