e350 2011 Convertible won't work
The hydraulic fluid is empty so I purchased a bottle on Amazon (thank you for recommending what to buy). Other than adding the fluid and using the paper towels to check for leaks, what else do you suggest?
The top worked last week fine.

If the tank was empty I would be concerned if there are leaks. Check the fluid level regularly to be sure. You may have to bleed the pump as well maybe not if the lines themselves were not empty. What I do as well is grease all contact points and hinges with white lithium grease.

The top fluid tank and pump is located in the left rear trunk panel. You will see a clear tank with the fluid in it and there may be a line where the full mark is...

How to bleed the pump?
Hi there - how do you bleed the pump? I've heard that the system is "self-bleeding" but the line that broke went empty and is for the first stage (the rear cover opening), so I think I need to bleed it or prime it in some way. Thanks

I just had to replace the hydraulic cylinders on my mom's 209, I know they have a very similar setup to the 207. The drivers side main lift cylinder blew out, so the system couldn't build enough pressure to work correctly (it was pretty much just pumping fluid out of the broken main lift cylinder.) If you have zero fluid left in the reservoir there is likely a substantial leak causing a similar issue in your system. Also, would suggest you proceed with caution as running the system dry can lead to potential issues with the pump. When I refilled the system on the 209 after replacing the cylinders it took the reservoir filled to "max" just to refill all the lines and cylinders, it took about 1.5 refills to "max" just to get the top functioning again, and I had to top the reservoir off again after that. If you find a substantial leak, go to tophydraulics.com for replacement parts, they're great 👍🏻
