I am in the process of buying this 2016 E400 Cabriolet with 44k miles from Carvana. It should arrive tomorrow.

I am concerned about the hydraulic leaks Car Wizard discussed on YouTube.

1) Is there anything I can do to mitigate that?

2) This will be 100% garaged. Is it okay to leave the top down all the time?

Anything I should be focused on during my 7 day return period with Carvana?

I would store the vehicle in an all weather capable roadworthy configuration. ie top up.

Fix what needs fixing if needed. Cutting corners on maintenance and repairs on an MB results in a downward spiral.

I leave mine down, except when I'm gone for the summer. If it's not top down weather, I use the other car.

Same here, I just park it in garage however I had it driving. You do need to keep the top cleaned and protected so I wouldn't leave it folded down for a really long period but I haven't seen any hard evidence that it matters for a few days up vs down. It's a pretty good question though...so if someone has something evidence based I'd love to learn too.

For what to look for on the car...it's a long list. If you're worried, have a trusted mechanic go over the vehicle just as if you hadn't bought it yet. This forum will show you there are a ton of weird things that can pop up, but this community is a good support, especially Konigstiger...life saver man.

I vote it's stored with the top up, If you store it top-down 24/7 you'll get some creases/frays in the fabric at all the fold lines. I saw the same Wizard's video the week I bought my Cabriolet. He has some valid points but if it happens it happens until then, I enjoy it and don't think to yourself every single time you cycle the top " Is this the time it will spring a leak?"

That’s a very good point. Thanks.

Hey Guys, I just bought my 2016 E400 Cab. Top worked perfectly fine until today.... I tried putting the top down - the windows went down and that's it. No lights, No sounds, no nothing. Any advice?

Is the convertible top partition boot in the trunk up or down?

Yes. Tried everything I thought could work. Ended up bringing it to the dealer this morning, waiting for their diagnostic.

This community BLOWS MY MIND. I had no idea there were so many MB owners who are this passionate about their cars. Then I push the pedal down on a cool night and understand. 👍

Definitely take it to the dealer or a trusted Indy shop within the 7 day window that carvana gives. Also, seriously consider either the carvana warranty or some other warranty. I bought a 14 coupe last year from them that’s great, but when I got it inspected there were some oil leaks in the top side of the engine. The warranty took care of everything. I also had some work done during my PPI at the dealer that was covered minus the $50 warranty deductible.

An update on my new E400 Cabriolet. Had a very detailed mechanic find everything that needed to be repaired. It’s quite a long list:

Total around $35k

I bought the car through Carvana so he’s sent this to SilverRock for repairs. I suppose if all of this is replaced I might have a pretty good deal? Not sure. That’s a lot and the car was $39k. I will be a lot less concerned with the soft top if they put a new one on. I’m not sure they will do all of this, but what is their alternative?

What do you guys think?

Yikes
As a person who has to have 4 wheels refinished with SilverRock and that was a pain I highly doubt you will get them to pay for all that work. Honestly with what you were quoted and what you paid you could consider this car “ mechanically totaled“

I’ve been curious about the costs of the soft top I’ve seen them sold online for $1,900 as of last week. Granted I believe that was just the outer layer vs the outer inner and also headliner on the inside.

I see you need the wind deflector and also window motors and regulators, are those items not working at all?

With that steep Of a bill and that much wrong I would go head return the car to Carvana,

Seems very excessive. Is all of that stuff not functional on the car? Sounds like the shop is gouging. A whole new top? Why?

Something is fishy here . That is a ridiculous list. Can it possible all be true or is the mechanic thinking Carvana will pay his June mortgage? Me… I would reject the car based on all that.

Agreed this is really excessive. It actually would make me question if the mechanic really knew what needed replaced vs just replacing anything that could possibly be the cause. Either way you're in for a long pain if you stick with the situation. Walk away if you can man.

The dealer is fishing for cash in the insurance company's pockets. A greasy snake, like all dealers.
