Just checking in...
I really have just one concern....I destroyed my key to my 2012 e350 coupe.Took all needed paperwork/proof to the dealership.$410.00,and a week later,I still have no key.Is this what I need to come to expect with this company? If so,i need to get rid of this car immediately. Any other manufacturer would have had me a key already. To be such a prestigious brand, they are not impressive.

Then I've got to get rid of this car. This is pathetic. One would think with the money you put out to own one of these cars, they would put a priority on customer service.Guess I'm going back to Infiniti. No point in posting a photo.

Confused
Ok.They have my key.Had to have car towed to dealership so they can put key in ignition. No programing. No resetting.Just putting the key in the hole.So does that mean they are so untrustworthy of their engineering skills they are afraid key won't work or is it because replacement keys have failed so many times that this is mandatory? That doesn't say much for a luxury car company that doesn't even believe that their replacement keys will work in the car they were programed for,to the point they have to be tried at the dealership.(we don't know if it's going to work,so you have to bring g the car in,just in case it doesnt)Must happen alot if this is the lengths they have to go to to assure their product works.

In my opinion, you need to chill out. Read some of the posts on here. Waiting a week for a key for a 13 year old car is nothing. As to why you needed to have the car towed in? I don’t know. But you are over reacting. Maybe they wanted to prove ownership.

Registration/ID should be MORE than enough proof that I am the owner. Its my key,it's my car.The technician said,"I have to put the key in the ignition. There is no programing,I just have to be the one to do it."Many people on here have said if it's an additional key, they should just give it to you because there is no programming.I don't have 3 different cars to choose from to drive. The fact I've got to wait all weekend without a car just to have someone turn a key is ludicrous.....as you said,it's a 13yr old car, they're that worried about someone try'n to steal it?

You didn’t say how you destroyed the key.

No they didn't pay for the tow. They didnt even call and tell me the key had arrived. But by the time i called them about it,it was to close to 5:30pm for a technician to put the key in the ignition and turn it... I was polishing wheels on my other car that isn't geared for highway use.(Nova,383sb,500hp,4.11 gear,110 octane fuel,8 miles to the gallon)The key fell out of my pocket, and when I went to back my other car up,I ran over it.

I'm not looking for sympathy here.Hell,I don't even wanna hear that what they're doing is wrong.I just want to know why such the hassle/hardship over a key that I paid for to a car that i own(that is 13yrs old as you stated). Why did I have to pay an extra $140 on top of the $410(for the key) just so some person in service can turn it.Its not even that the car was bought from this dealership. Its the same going out to dinner, and buying lobster, but you can't eat it till the cook comes and takes a bite out of it to make sure everything is ok.

You should be complaining to the service manager about the tow. Maybe they’ll reimburse you for that. As for your OP. As stated, nothing out of the ordinary there.

Thank you for your input.Ive just never had to deal with anything like this.To pay for something and be denied of it,when you know everything is just fine.I feel like I'm have'n to go around my elbow to get to my ***,and the dealer isn't helping me one bit.

Well...
Do consider purchasing a spare key. I'm neurotic...I have 3 keys for my c207, though I have no car (long story).
Hack/Spit/Repeat..

Don't know for sure, but it could just be fraud prevention protocol, as you only had one key. As for the high cost, you shouldn't be surprised, even if it's over a decade old. MBs are not known for being inexpensive to maintain.
I lost my valet key and had to jump through hoops to get a spare and it seemed exorbitant for a mechanical key. However, I've always had spare keys to each of my vehicles, MB or not. Knowing myself, I'd rather have a complete spare, than only a partial. Also, with the advent of smart keys, I can see why an MB dealer would want you to bring the car in.
I may be biased, but I doubt you'll find a better ride for the money

I agree to an extent....by no means am I upset about the car,performance,comfort,etc....so far it's been the best vehicle I've owned yet...I guess what my problem is,the fact I'm in a mechanic family. My father owns a mechanics shop(granted he's still old school with air tools, and he's not cpu savy)Then,my cousin owns his own body shop.... so when a dealership acts like I'm a dumbass and can't do something as simple as turn a key,I may get butthurt. This is the first vehicle I've not been able to do certain tasks on(mainly because the software is $1000's of dollars over here in the south.lol)So yeah,I maybe get'n in my feelings a lil much.

LOL, you can blame governments for the disappearance of "dumb" cars. Ever since 1996, manufacturers have had to put in more "intelligence" in their products. The costs of diagnostic equipment only gets worse with each passing year. I still have heartache over the fact the new Land Rover "Defender" has 85 ECUs on board. I'll take the old "dumb" Defenders any day...

I think I may have figured it out...from what I've read up about,a mercedes key comes from the factory blank.Whenever it's put into the car for the first time,it programs itself to that car. So,in theroy..I couldn't leave with that key because what would keep me from walking up to a G wagon or something of the sorts, putting that key in,and it becoming that cars new key.If that's the case,I totally get that, but why not just tell me that?

I think I may have figured it out...from what I've read up about,a mercedes key comes from the factory blank. Its not programed whatsoever.Only reason they need a VIN is so the emergency key can be cut to the lock.Whenever it's put into the car for the first time,it programs itself to that car. So,in theroy..I couldn't leave with that key because what would keep me from walking up to a G wagon or something of the sorts, putting that key in,and it becoming that cars new key.If that's the case,I totally get that, but why not just tell me that?
