Thank you in advance for your time.

Does parking lock feature work properly, this would be the only reason why someone would attempt to remove chrome ring wanting to possibly check button.

It works, but that might be an explanation for the missing ring...

That’s Mercedes quality for you. Mine just broke five minutes ago. That makes us two very unlucky guys.

Can it be repaired or requires a new gear selector stalk?

Mine broke too

Morning
I came across this thread in an attempt to find a replacement trim cover to my steering column gear selector. Mine came off yesterday (22/05/23) on a hot sunny day. It's a very thin and flimsy piece of plastic and I don't think it can be sourced separately from Mercedes. If anyone here managed to find a replacement, please let me know!
The alternative is to just live with it. It won't affect your car in any way.

There are covers that are sold on AliExpress that cover the whole lever (They have it in silver and carbon fibre finishes).

sorry to hear this happened to you too. I think I’m just going to live with the problem.

Issue resolved

So I figured the best chance I have to replace the broken trim is to buy a second hand gear lever from eBay (I got mine for £30) and simply extract it out carefully (You will need to break it to remove it) and super glue it back onto your shifter. Make sure you break it from the rear so that when you glue it on, the break is on the rear of the shifter and not shown. I know AliExpress have covers for these but they look really ugly, cost around £20 and take a month to arrive when you can have a replacement second hand shifter from eBay for about the same and you keep your car look original. Please note the second picture after the installation was taken before I cleaned up the excess glue!
