I did something boneheaded and wound up damaging my fascia. Before I take it to a body shop, I would like to try and push it out myself. Searching various sites including the forum it seems that applying heat and pressure from the backside could work. I am not looking for brand new aesthetics. It appears that I might be able to get to the backside with a heat gun, without removing the fascia.
The fascia is not displaced from any other side or angle.
There is a deep crease in it now. I will also need to replace the plastic chrome piece.
Any advice including how to remove the fascia, part numbers and others experience is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Funny, I did the exact same thing to my 2018 E400 last month, misjudging the distance between my car and a concrete pillar in an underground parking structure (the detector missed it too, probably due to the steep angle between the car and the pillar). Felt like an idiot, feared that the whole piece would need to be replaced. But I took it to a small auto body shop near our home, and the owner told me that it could be rubbed out and repainted. When I went to pick it up a couple of days later, it looked like new, and I asked the owner what they had to do to fix it, fearing the worst. Turned our that they simply rubbed out the damage, which looked very similar to what's in the photo, and didn't have to repaint anything — it truly looked like nothing had happened to it. Cost me all of $80! So, I suggest that you check with a reliable shop before panicking.
No rubbing will fix that issue. It needs repaint. Buy the parts from china then take it to a autobody shop to repaint that section and call it a day. You will beed the chrome trim and bumper diffuser which can be cheaply acquired from fleebay.
The chrome trim and bumper diffuser are easy enough. I plannned on replacing those. It's the front fascia I want to avoid having to remove and replace.
That's a great suggestion I had not considered. The crease is deep, and I suspect that you poured the water on the outside of your Tahoes Fascia. However, I could do similar using a turkey baster from the inside and pushing it out. If it works I will certainly post it before I rent a heat gun!!!
