Question 2017 E400 How to connect Android Auto?

Proud new owner of a 2017 E400 2Dr Coupe in Opal Red. This is a beautiful car, but also frustrating!
Its datacard says:
14U SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION PACKAGE
16U SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION APPLE CARPLAY
17U SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION ANDROID AUTO
and the previous had clearly made a Carplay connection, as the MEDIA was offering to make a new Carplay connection, but, like a paranoid idiot, I did a reset and now that has disappeared from MEDIA now.
MEDIA (and PHONE) show no signs of any Android Auto or Apple Carplay connectivity, despite the car's datacard. I have tried plugging my Android phone into the phone/tablet USB port in the storage box (the one with a lid betwwen the seats) but very little happens other than a minor change of wording in the MEDIA devices list. If I pull up Auto on my Pixel 7 phone and try to add a new vehicle that way, nothing is found. Any ideas? BTW, I tried to get to the secret menu by the "hang-up+1+#" but I've read that it's likely disabled in my car. I was hoping that my answer might lie in enabling things in that menu, but how to enable that menu? I do have a CReader if there are options I can set from there to enable it.
If you got this far, thanks for reading to the end.
TIA

I'm surprised no one has replied to this... I'm currently also facing this problem. Was hoping to find some answers in the wealth of this forum, but nothing. 2018 e43 here, but literally exact same problem. Just bought it, but it doesn't recognise my phone is connected yet it charges. Trying to connect via the car doesn't show anything connected. Trying to connect through my phone doesn't show its connected.
haven't found anything useful through googling ao kinda feel sod outta luck. I'm wondering if it's somehow to do with phone permissions but can't figure out where this permission might be if it's not even acknowledging being connected so there's no permission to bring up... so I don't know...

But I'm also thinking it can't be my phone. My girlfriends phone doesn't get acknowledged either. Tried different cables that do work in other cars...

You made sure to plug it in the right usb slot right? There is a phone and tablet symbol.

Try calling it up, use voice command, say android auto and see if anything shows up.
Any chance both of your phones is the exact same model that is not compatible? What about andriod auto version on both phones?

In Comand on the car, I went to Vehicle -> Settings -> Reset. She said "All settings will be erased, do you want to continue?" and I picked yes. Or something along those lines. I certainly had to set my timezone again, and all the blutooth connections were gone.
Does this help?

While my issue wasn't as far as I'm aware started because of doing the reset you mentioned (mine showed no signs of any previously connected phones), mine showed what seems to be the same symptoms.

I was trying multiple different cables that have worked fine in other cars without success.

Ashamed to say, that is until I ordered an official samsung high speed data transfer cable.
Yup. Plugged that in and it now works perfectly fine. It may be worth starting from the basics, and ensure you have an official phone branded cable for your phone. Not saying that'll definitely fix it, but sometimes we assume too much and it makes a fool out of us (me )
