Car-to-X Communication
Has anyone had any experience with Car-to-X Communication? Has it ever worked for anyone? I haven’t seen any warnings, messages or alerts. I think I should be able to manually report an issue (similar to Waze), but can’t figure out how. There is plenty of general information about what it’s supposed to do in theory, but no details or instructions. I know there are only a limited number of cars with Car-to-X capability. It’s been in the E Class since 2017. I’ve spent time driving in New York and Boston and you’d think in such densely populated areas there would be some compatible cars. Car-to-X is active in my Mercedes me connect account.

As far as I can tell Car to X Communication does nothing except gave mb bragging rights to be such an advanced car. I was at the Tesla place tonight, now they have some real features.

Well they do have parking pilot where the car will park itself and pull out itself with no driver in the car, our cars where suppose to have this but for whatever reason probably never will. They also have "summon" where the car will drive to you and pick you up. The autonomous driving feature is also a lot better than any other car.

Yes the module is there, I really thought it was going to happen in the USA as I heard the holdup was the Verizon Cell phone connection and Now with the Change to ATT I thought that would help. Some people say it Legal stuff but I don't think so, the Teslas have had this feature for quite sometime. I'd never buy a Tesla, I don't like their interiors and I don't like the big touch screen tablet right in front of the driver. Also I'd have major range apprehension. For that matter I'm not even real crazy about the exterior styling of all the Tesla models. I think my E450 Cabriolet is one of the most beautiful cars on the road.

The wife's nav system constantly shows an icon for car-x and a distance but we've never been able match the distance up with another new Merc.

That’s interesting. What does the icon look like and where is it displayed. I’ve never seen anything that I thought might be a car-to-X alert. Can you get a picture?

I'll see if I can get a picture this weekend. I can't find any mention of car-to-x in the owners manual.

The E450 CAB is designed so beautifully, both inside and out. One of the best soft top convertibles out there on the road IMO. I pray to God, they don't screw it up on future models with that big, ugly I-pad type screen they plan on doing on the new S class vehicles. I know MBUX and touchscreen are coming, but please....knock it off with those intrusive big I-pads!
Tesla interiors suck btw.

It has activated for me a couple of times on road closures due to accidents. To me, it's tough to tell what prompts are "live traffic" and which ones are car to X communications.

There is no icon. It alerts you to traffic hazards or accidents through visual and/or audio cues on your Navigation system. Much like live traffic, it reroutes you or warns you of potential upcoming problems.

I've seen heavy traffic symbols and accident symbols. I’ve gotten warnings of accidents and been asked if I want to avoid and reroute. I assume that info is all coming from Live Traffic. I’ll be driving in and around Manhattan this weekend. I’ll pay more arrention to the display and see if anything can be identified as Car-to-X.

Our icon didn't indicate alerts or anything else of interest, just the icon with something like 4 or 6 miles. And this was in BFE southern Arizona where there weren't many new Mercs running around. Distance never seemed to change before the icon would disappear. Had live traffic on also which may have mattered, but the owners manual doesn't say anything about car-2-X that I could find.
This is the only instance of an icon I could find regarding this system: (attention: accident ahead)

That’s pretty clear. Definitely never seen anything like that. Where did you find that?

Thats why I say I don't think car to x communication is even active and communicates with other cars. It does show as active in the mercedes me connect app but I don't believe it.

I’m not convinced that it works yet either. The article mentioned by rustybear3 is from 2013. You’d think by 2019 there would be much more information and operational descriptions available.

I went to the New York Auto Show today. I had two questions for the Mercedes “product experts.” I asked about Car to X. They didn’t have any more information than we’ve already shared in this forum. They didn’t know what Car to X should display on our screens or if we could manually report an incident. They really didn’t understand it at all. I also asked if or when remote parking would be available in the US. They seemed to be aware that it was available in some countries, but they didn’t have any info about when or if we would see it here. They didn’t know if would work in current cars if it where to become available in the uS.

I found this MB description of Car2X. It’s pretty recent. It mentions the 2017 E Class. I do not have the “Report Hazard” option in my car.

Today while using the COMAND navigation, I found a way to report a hazard via Car-to-X. This is actually mentioned in the in the owners manual, but I’ve never noticed it there or on the navigation screen. See the clip from the owners manual below. If you select the #4 SEND option, another menu pops up asking if you want to report a hazard, yes or no. If you select yes, your reported hazard is placed on the map. I assume it is sent to other MB cars. Unfortunately, you can only select yes or no. There is no option to describe the hazard as with WAZE (debris in the road, car at the side of the road, pothole etc.) maybe we’ll get more capability in the future.

4 Selects the function depending on the equip‐
