Over-The-Air Software Updates

Has anyone received any over-the-air software updates through Mercedes me connect. I have received 2 Map updates, but not COMAND or other software updates even though there have been updates available for my car that the dealer ultimately installed. Mercedes claims that the software can be kept up to date without visiting a dealer.

Mercedes describes the over the air updates as designed to:
  • Install the latest software
  • Optimize your COMAND system and head unit
  • Follow the status of your updates and see new features on Mercedes me connect
With Software Updates, the latest technology from Mercedes-Benz is always yours to own.

The lack of any response tells me that Mercedes has not actually started rolling out COMAND updates over-the-air. It would be a nice feature to be able to keep our cars up to date much like an iPhone. New and improved features would be welcome. I guess Mercedes would rather you buy a new car to get the most current technology.

I believe COMAND updates are possible with 2019 MY and later cars with Mercedes me connect, but probably not being used yet by Mercedes Benz. The over-the-air map updates work, but are very slow. It is much faster to download the the map updates to an SD card an then install.

I was talking about COMAND System updates (not OTA). The map updates are indeed updated OTA (only for default regio, and indeed, using SD card is much faster!).

v4.80
COMAND Version 04.80.00.20 appears to be the most current. Mine was updated in September 2019. I’m a little surprised there hasn’t been an update since. Maybe the next one will be made available over-the-air.

Does anybody know if a 2nd owner of a 2018 E400 outside of the free 3 year map update period can pay Mercedes to continue to deliver map updates OTA? The MB dealer wanted $464 to update the navigation in house. I can download it from the internet one time for $125 and do it myself but a link in the MercedesMe app would be much better.

My car updates the map OTA. If your drives are short the update takes a lot longer.
