ROOF BROKEN - AGAIN

Today I tried closing the roof, and it opens the cap and then it's stuck. No amount of jiggling or turning the car on or off helps. Drove it to the dealer at 30 mph with the hazards on. Can you imagine if this had happened in the middle of nowhere or at night or in the rain or on some street before going into the hotel? I am beyond pissed off. They already had to replace the strings in this top because they fell apart and caused the roof to not close all the way unless you pushed down on it. I know people with Mustang convertibles that are 20 years old and the roof still works because it's one simple motor and you can push it closed if you have to. What a joke.

Had something similar happen a month ago. What year is your car?

I had read somewhere that the 2018 a238 had an issue with the cords in the top - that they would fray or break. I also read the 2019 top was modified so the cords didn’t get rubbed so much.

My issue was the top cover got stuck in the up position and wouldn’t move. The top was almost closed (I was closing it when it failed). The right latch was secured but not the left.

I had it towed in to the shop—mostly because I wasn’t going to drive around with my car sporting an erection :-).

Of course they told me that after I left, the top worked perfectly. I tried and tried everything and couldn’t get it to budge. Of course their insinuation was I wasn’t do it right. I’ve had this car for almost two years. I think I know how to push or pull a button.

They also said there were no logs of a failure. Figures. They said they lubed all the places on the top and it was working perfectly.

I guess we will see

Well apparently is was a sensor and software issue. Not sure if they replaced the sensor but here is the summary:

23495 #WARRANTY COMPLAINT: GUEST STATES THE CONVERTIBLE TOP IS STUCK. CAUSE: SOFTWARE. CORRECTION: VERIFIED CONCERN. TRIED TO CLOSE TOP WITH BUTTON AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. CONNECTED/DISCONNECTED BATTERY CHARGER. CONNECTED/DISCONNECTED SDS. PERFORMED QUICK TEST AND FOUND CODE B251939 RIGHT REAR POSITION SENSOR 1 FOR THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR HAS MALFUNCTION. PERFORMED GUIDED TEST. NORMALIZED REAR WINDOW- OK. FOUND RELATED LI: LI77.30-P-068840. PERFORMED LI AND UPDATED SOFTWARE IN THE REAR CONTROL UNIT- SUCCESSFUL. AFTER REPAIRS, PERFORMED SECOND QUICK TEST AND NO FURTHER CODES. CONVERTIBLE TOP OPENS/CLOSES AS DESIGNED. MO 23495

should have earlier but I just watched your video. With the exception of the top (mine was closed except for one latch and yours was open) the exact thing happened to me.

Made a screenshot of your diagnosis so if it happens again they can look at that sensor. As I mentioned in my previous post, they said they saw no error codes

I think the original post was 2018. It was 2019, I think, when the steering wheel was upgraded to the S-Class wheel. The video shows the older wheel.

am I right?

Crap. Is this a recall or just a "if it comes in broken, here's how to fix it"? Of course, the former is always free.... the latter is only free while your car is under warranty

Not a Recall or Service Campaign but rather Xentry bulletin covered under factory, extended, CPO warranty. Out of warranty one can argue for MB goodwill assistance more so if vehicle is maintained by MB dealer i.e.: oil changes, etc.
