Considering a 2018 E 400 coupe 4matic

Greetings,
Any areas of trouble to be aware of? 23,000 miles still has some factory warranty. Not a CPO.
All responses are appreciated.

I've had mine since new, 3 1/2 years now. Tracking down a couple of rattles. Only non-maintenance thing done was rear struts replaced due to clunking sound. I have about ~25k miles.

Thank you.
I am very concerned about the complexity of the electronics and don’t want to buy a headache.

For sure. For me, if over the next 3 years I incur 5k work of repairs of any kind, that's pretty good for a modern German car over the total ownership period.

I have a 2002 C230coupe that I gave to my son. 80000 miles and never a mechanical problem. The plastic fasteners, the clips that hold the window switches, the fabric headliner and back of seat liners, the sunroof gear have all disintegrated. The rubber door seal on the driver’s door yesterday started to sag and won’t let the door close properly. Scared of getting into a material and electronic nightmare. I have a 92 Toyota pickup. 240,000 miles. The only thing that has deteriorated is the dome light lens. That’s it.

The one I checked out today had seriously chewed up front right tire. Like flapping rubber treads. Anybody running standard tires? Run flats are trash.

While I hate my run flats, that sounds like at best an alignment issue and more likely a wreck.

The engine on this vehicle is more reliable than most for MB, that’s in the plus column in my view. COMAND or MBUX are shared across platforms so wouldn’t worry there.

I would focus on body-related items like seats, trim, doors, glass, and road damage (tires, wheels).

Pulled the rip chord. The car was definitely in a front end crash. CarFax is an overrated joke. I highly recommend a pre purchase inspection. Saved me thousands in money and headaches. The front right was visibly shredded and the "manager" was oblivious. Nothing has changed in the used car world. They are all crooks.

Glad you got out. At the same time, you really like generalizations.

Our last three Mercedes products have all been purchased via the CPO route, and we are quite happy with the process. It provides inspection by a MB dealer, additional warranty, and requires replacement of certain parts prior to sale. We typically keep a vehicle six to ten years, so buying the latest and greatest is not really a consideration, rather to purchase what we want. One does have to do a bit of searching and discovery, however our results with regard to a CPO purchase have been most acceptable.

E 450 4matic cab MY22
My daughter bought a CPO from a Hyundai Dealer. The warranty was unbelievable. It was much better than the factory warranty. They gave her a checklist of everything they had examined on the car. They detailed the car and any minor issue she had they addressed immediately.. In my opinion it was better than new without taking the huge new car deprecation. It sure opened my eyes as to the value of buying a CPO.

2017 E400 coupe

Hi,

Bought a 2017 E400 4matic coupe for my wife in July - experience to-date has been excellent. Have owned MB E and C class vehicles for past 20 years - experience with E class has been better than C class. Vehicle came with less than 10,000 miles with some factory warranty remaining and CPO and now has only 12,000 miles on it. Have the original Michelin M&S radials and am wondering whether to replace with winter tires, but expect that car will be driven less than 2000 miles before putting into storage for winter - any thoughts anyone (our winters on N.S. East Coast do not tend to be severe.....) ?

This sounds like a no brainer to me. Most people get along fine on all season tires. You are planning on storing the car. Why put snow tires on?
