Purchased new (to me) 2019 A238. Everything is great except the rear window looks rough. Would you all please give me your opinions or thoughts on this?

I feel like I need to have this repaired. Is this a huge deal or just a window replacement? The car is still under warranty - should MB fix this?

I don't think I've seen anything like that before. Maybe there was an obstruction when the previous owner actuated the top. I would look into repair options, unsure if just the window can be replaced. If not repairable under some sort of warranty, loo for shops that specialize in top repair.

My 2018 E400 Cabrio is doing this now as well. It seems to be adding more discolored spots everyday and we are not driving it while it sits in our garage. I am curious as to what is causing this and I hope it doesn't look like the previous post pics in the future.

Should be covered under factory warranty seal is failing due to heat see line 7 of attachment.

Makes sense since I live in south FL and the spots seem to be growing by the day. The car is stored in a warm to hot garage.

Is the rear glass replaced in this type of repair? It seems the loosening seal is removing the black paint from the glass which hides the seal area from view. I cant see how that would be repaired if not repainted.

Does Mercedes have a service bulletin on this condition for the A238?

You are the man BTW!

No bulletin I’m aware of. Seal is replaced independent of window. If it found that window is affected it should be replaced inclusive of new seal.

One thing to note, SAFELITE will not replace the rear glass on the 2018 - present A238 cabriolet. On the 2017 and older A207 they will. The A207 has a framed window with seal. Mercedes changed the design in 2018. We seem to be glued to the top. Here is a pic of my (RIP) 2017 E400 A207 rear window design.

These posts are making me regret breaking my personal rule to never buy a new model vehicle in the first year of a redesign. The top on this beautiful car was just not well thought out. My 2016 A207 was totally solid and never gave me any trouble. Two weeks into owning this 2018 and just can't enjoy the car yet. Will keep an eye on this issue as TN gets into the 90's for 2-3 straight months each year. Thanks for sharing, guys.

Were you able to get this covered under warranty? Mine goes in Tuesday for this and I wondered what your result was.

Just got the call. The back glass is not covered under the CPO warranty.

I have a 2018 E400 for sale if anybody wants one. Low miles and only 1 defect.
I talked to my salesman and he's looking for a 2019-21 E450 spec'd the way I want it. First things I'm looking at are the back glass, top tension cords and leather seats condition.

Repairs?

We have the same issue on our 2017 C300 and like others not covered under CPO. Has anyone had this repaired?

Still asking if anyone was able to get this repaired. My upholstery shop says I need a new top with a redesigned glass mounting. It is a bad design from MB.

My bubbles haven't progressed since the last picture. The only way I know this can be repaired is by replacing the entire top. As for a redesign, I sure hope there was one. I haven't looked yet at a 2021 or newer to see if there is a recognizable difference between early A238's and the newer ones.

Not sure if MB redesigned the window mounting but my top guy says there are German made tops with a better window attachment that will not separate again.

Hi there- could it be this issue is something that only impacts the cars optioned with the red or blue soft top fabric? Notice the two cars in this thread are red and blue. Mine is a 2018 with black fabric- I’m in Australia and we have a very warm climate (not dissimilar to Florida). I’ve had two of these cars now and looked at many others when buying my current one, I have never seen this issue before.

Our car has a black top and the glass is sticking out at the bottom corner as the glue has separated just like the ones pictured. It's a common problem with this design that should be covered by MB. Time for a class action suit!

I went to the dealer yesterday to get the master power window switch replaced so while I was there I took a picture of a 2022 C300 top. I don't see any difference between my 2018 and the new ones.

7 months later and the progression has seemed to stop. No new spots and no new growing of old spots. Hopefully that's the worst it gets.

Currently at dealership with same issue. E400 blue top.
Dealership says not covered under CPO. I have opened a case with MBUSA as this is clearly a manufacturing defect which is covered under CPO.

We shall see how this progresses. I will update.

Please do keep us updated. I would like to know if making a complaint with Mercedes gets this covered. I too have CPO warranty and have been denied. Glass not covered they state.

They are waiting until Monday to hear what MB has to say, as a switch that is covered won't be in until then.
The quote to replace top ..... $19,500

I will update.

That price is...incredible. I would be curious as to the price breakdown, parts and labor.
