What's going on?

E450 (maybe E53 AMG) coupe is something I'm looking at as my next car. I've been watching some videos and photos and can't find any information on the headrest adjustments.

Attached are photos of the coupe's headrest vs. the sedan's. The coupe's seem to protrude so far forward that is looks very uncomfortable?

Can the headrest be tilted backwards or does it only have up and down adjustments?

The button you see on the headrest will move it backwards and forwards.

E 450 4matic cab MY22

We have a 2022 E450 Cabriolet. My wife has been able to adjust the headrest to suit her. I have included a screenshot of the information on doing this from the manual. My wife detests the way so many cars headrests protrude forward. In fact I have had to remove the headrest from the last two SUV's we've owned and insert them backwards in order for her to be comfortable. Thankfully she has been able to adjust the rests in the cabriolet to suit her!

Similar experience for me. My wife likes it fwd more and I like to lean back. The Benz accommodates us both nicely with that little button. Of course she was appalled at my spoiled question of why it wasn't motorized.

I would really appreciate if you can post a photo of the headrest in the rear most position. All the videos and photos I've seen are all at the fore most position. Unfortunately our local dealer doesn't have any in stock for me to check out in person.

Thanks in advance.

C238/W213 E Class Headrest Views

Here are multiple views from the driver's seats of my 2019 E Coupe (saddle brown) and my wife's 2019 E Sedan (black) to show the difference between headrests of the two body styles at the limits of their travel, along with forward and backward views from the top of the driver's seat of my coupe. Although it may not be clear from the photos, in its highest position, the headrest on the coupe almost touches the headliner because of the lower roofline.

My wife's car has the plastic coat hanger that mounts between the two driver's seat headrest rails, so I couldn't drop the headrest all the way to the lowest position, but you can still see the differences between the highest and "lowest" points. Speaking of differences, I'm also puzzled as to why the coupe's and sedan's seats are designed differently. For example, the "well" into which the headrest retracts is deeper in the coupe, which makes the top of the headrest a little too high on my coupe, even in the lowered position. Minor nit that doesn't bother me at all as I love the car, but just curious.

Hope these are helpful.

Thanks a lot for those photos!

Based on those photos and what I've seen online, it kind of confirms my suspicion that those headrests are tilted far too forward even if pushed all the way back. This creates a lot of discomfort for shorter people with upright posture because the headrest pushes your head forward.
Once my dealer has some in stock I'll have to check it out in person but it doesn't look promising.

For a comparison, here's Audi S5 coupe's headrest (sport seat option). The headrest seems to have a more natural angle in relation to the seat back.

Glad the photos were helpful, but you're right, the Audi's headrests do appear to be in a more natural position. That said, I'm 5'11" and leave my headrest in the backward position, so it works for me. My wife is 5'6" and drove 150 miles of a 500 miles trip we took in my coupe a few weeks ago and had no trouble with the headrests. Based on our experience, it's not as bad as it looks, but the Audi's headrests do seem like they'd be more comfortable for shorter drivers. Hopefully your local dealership will have a E Coupe soon so you can check it out.

PFL205.064 with M276.823 (Oil pump solenoid defeated)
OP, the design of this headrest has to do with the air scarf that is optional on these cars, it is meant to be tilted that way so the warm air blows to the passenger's neck and not the head. I am not saying if this design is right or wrong I am just saying this design is designed with air scarf in mind.

I’ve read the manual 3 times. I totally missed that. Same for my C.
Thanks.
