Exhaust pops and crackles
Earlier I noticed that when in individual driving mode with the individual engine profile set to "manual", audible pops and crackles can be heard when starting the car and when downshifting (see video). I found this surprising as the exhaust does not do this even in sport/sport+ mode. Does anybody have any insight about this "hidden" feature? I wonder why it doesn't do the same in sport+ mode. The pops are LOUD, be heard inside as well as outside the vehicle

Don't have an answer. But enjoy it as it is part of the premium exhaust option that costs about $2K I think. You can also code the car to customize when it opens. For example, in Sport+ mode.

Your car does that in Individual/manual because it’s likely keeping the valves fully open and adjusting fuel/ignition timing for a more aggressive overrun. Sport+ might have a slightly different calibration, maybe prioritizing other factors like throttle response or upshift speed over the loud pops. It’s a known quirk the programming in that specific mode just lets it crackle more.

Just noticed that our E400 V-6 TT has exhaust crackles in Sport+ mode during off gas peddle deceleration.
Standard exhaust.
Doesn't seemed to have ever been tuned.
Haven't determined if its actually coming from the exhaust or piped in thru the stereo speakers

Might be used to keep the turbos spooling.
