adding more dashboard switches.how?

when one wants to add a rocker switch or two, to the top center consul(were the hazard, rear demist, rear light, and so on are.)Does one have to cut out the spaces in the wood?rather than buy a new wood panel. And if so,are the spaces marked out behind the panel to show were to cut?how does one cut it to ensure a perfect professional job? Also, where should i look at finding all the factory option rocker switches that were available for this section of the dash. thanks

For the most professional results you need to get the appropriate panel with the right number of cutouts. There are no markings or cutouts on the back. For parts you can try contacting steve (MbenzNL) at steve@mbenznl.com

He would be your best bet to try and find the parts, but it might be harder to find stuff for a 124

I wouldn't go that route.... Why don't you do this instead, if you have the center roll up console, make a switch board in there. Stays hidden and looks cleaner. If you don't have one, they're pretty cheap used at the dismantler and ebay

you might damage the wood if you cut it yoruself. i suggest you buy a used dash pice from another benz first, experimant on cutting that one, then proceed with care.

what switch do you want to install anyway?

Yes, you can buy panels with the whole top row that accepts switches, or just a few extras...in Burlwood, Zebrano and Bird's Eye Maple.

Cost about as much as a piece of furniture too. I'll sell an extra 500E one with cracked clearcoat if anyone wants; its burlwood.

Yes, it uses the same size wood pieces but has a few extra switch slots as compared to a 300E. I don't have my W124 parts catalog in front of me but I think there are several versions of the piece with varying slots.

The clearcoat is cracked typically in one spot like they do but other than that it is perfect. I will try to post a pic of my extra one asap then.

Remember, the 500E wood is burlwood which won't match your existing wood. You can also look for the 300TE wagon wood panel. Those are Zebrano and have a couple more holes than the sedan wood.
