Radio dilemma for 1993 E300TE

I just bought my wife this car...it is fantastic. I really miss the old Mercedes. The car is completely stock with only 80k miles and was a one owner car. I like the look of the original radio and it works fine. HOwever, my wife is used to playing my daughter's CDs in the car. I hate to swap out the head unit, but if I did, I would probaby opt for an MP3 player so I could load all of my daughter's songs on one CD. Also, I would want something really plain and simply...no flashing lights, etc. Any recommendations?

The other option is to hard wire an IPOD in, but it has to look clean...do any of you have pics of this done?

Thanks.

Paul

I think you can get an alpine cd changer that can read mp3s off discs... that will work with the stock radio... not 100% sure though

Well I would not recommend keeping the stock radio and using it with an ipod because of the sound quality of the o.e speakers and internal amp in the o.e radio. Lnkprk this would be the time to take pictures of you radio. just get a regular mp3 player some speakers and that's it.

I think I'm going to lean towards an Alpine unit for $200!

I just don't think people should $400 on headunits but it's your money do as you wish with it! I spent 1 hour trying to tell lnk prk not to waste his money and it worked. LOL

I can understand, but it is going to cost more to get an Ipod and CD player to work and look clean.

why the need for pictures? i don't think he wants to see my 'flashy' head unit ( pioneer 7700 pm ) installation was quick and sounds great. maybe even replace speakers. stock ones were 18 watt ( peak im pretty sure ) and 6 ohm.

'93 300TE 4-Matic
My opinion is to keep the stock head unit since it looks great in there and it has this nice feature of raising the volume as the car goes faster. I would get a CD changer with an FM transmitter which can also play MP3s (JVC makes one for less than $200). I would not venture into getting a CD changer which hooks up directly to the stock head unit. I did a lot of research on that and it will cost too much once you factor in the adapter, translator, wiring harness and so on.
I don't know if it's my car or all '93 300TE but the speakers sound just fine and have a lot of bass.
Just my 2 cents worth.

With an FM transmitter you can put anything in a car but the sound is not as great if you wire it to the headunit Also a mp3 cd changer? that's a lot of music for me. I mean each cd would have 250+ song x 12 i mean i guess if you like that many songs is ok but if your giving this to your wife you would want her just to pop in a cd and that's it not search a million songs while she's driving. I almost got in many accidents with my ipod because i was searching for a song.

My thoughts were one CD with all my wife's songs so she can just put it in, hit play and not mess with swapping CDs. She doesn't really care which song plays so long as its hers. Same goes with my 4 year old.
