Flare your fenders like the 500E or ...

One major limitation of the w124 (except the 500E) is the size of wheel and tire you can mount. Buy a few tools, an instructional DVD: Custom Metal Bodywork #1, and have at it or find a metalshaper who can flare it for you. http://allshops.org/cgi-bin/communit...=9980138836765
John Kelly hand fabricated my old Porsche fenders http://allshops.org/cgi-bin/communit...=9980196113489 and did a fantastic job. You'd be amazed what you can do with simple tools. Metal can be stretched AND shrunk without heat to almost any shape. It doesn't cost much cash just alot of patience and time...

I would love to have a bigger looking fender on my coupe, reminds me of muscle cars.

Yeah I did that to my fenders, worked pretty slick. Say lets see some pics of that 914 with the twin turbos, sounds like a cool ride as far as 914's go.

Here's a thread to my neo914-6 project: http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.ph...ST&f=2&t=37568 There are alot of links to the details, look at John Kelly for the flares...

Let's see your flare work!

Wow, that V8 914 is nutso man, sweet. I like the idea of the V6 twin turbo, nice and lean in weight. How bout the ol 4.2l from one of our breed!? I know of a low mi V8 for a fair $ in my neck of the woods at a local yard.

As far as my fenders go, I like them and I have no rubs anymore which is kewl for balling around corners with a dip. The car is pretty dirty, i'll wash it up for my trip to seattle and take some pics of the flairing. I would like to re flair them in the distant future and remove the fenders and use an english wheel or that power hammer thingy of which i can't remember the name.

A buddy of mine is going to look at a 91 300E I found for him, 129k for 4,800, looked clean too. He loved my Benz so I am going to convert yet another person to Gottlieb and Karls best.

A Benz V8 would be nice but too long and heavy for the little car. A supercharged V6 may fit. One guy installed a Porsche 928 V8 but had to cut the firewall and move the seat up. Good thing he wasn't tall.

We tried to shape a fender off the car but it distorts too easily. I arranged John Kelly to do a workshop and was really impressed. Very few people know the metal craft.

500E fenders and bumper covers are pretty cheap from a junkyard .... what sux is that you got to get everything from the lower cladding to all the guts behind the bumpers as well to get it all right.

When I was looking for a fiberglass fender project a lil' while back...there were 2 500Es in a Tennesse yard....guy was going to sell them fenders for $150 each (fronts). I gave up on the idea of a 500E race/track car. I couldn't find a used front bumper cover and they are $1100 each new....forget that. There's a salvage title 500E still for sale pretty close to me for $4000....that had me thinking track car. Then we had another child....yada, yada.

True though....they are usually all picked over very quickly in wrecking yards.

I do know of 3 recent 500Es that were totalled by accidents. Where they end up I don't know...also fenders come up on eBay.de once in a while.

If you look hard enough...the parts are out there; just not plentiful here in the USA.

Actually, I just remembered that this guy in Cali has 4 wrecked 500Es...I talked with him in May on 1 of them with a tan interior.

Robert Fenton 1(415) 456-4077 ...I think he is around San Fran maybe?

No sets of bumpers or fenders right now, in fact Robert was looking for a fender for a customer car...

I was going to buy a gearbox from the UK or Germany but the shipping was $4-600. Body parts "should" be cheaper to ship but factor that in...

Thanks for the leads!

Kein problem mein herr...

You should post what you'd like to find over at the 500Esctasy.com forum too....that'll quicken your chances for sure with all them/us guys looking out for you as well.

The wrecked ones sure do get stripped down quick though.
