- Aftermarket Car Audio -

This thread is to get a better idea about what everyone is running in their cars - car audio wise.

I think this will help people out as time progress and especially for me.

So, let's speak up people. I want to know what you guys have and if you have the time ... please let me know how everything was done and if you'd like - how much money you have invested into your audio equipment.

Soon, I will be adding a complete audio set-up. I am hoping to finish this by the upcoming Pasadena March meet.

Thanks W124'ers.

i have 13cm pioneers in the front and 16cm in the back. Cheap ones... looks like the "tweeter" is just some fake stuff put on!
Pioneer 7700mp... Willing to trade or sell. Too ricey for my tastes.
No amplifiers or subs. Alon.. are those 5.25 in the front and 6.5" in the back? and do you have any speakers in the doors? Lastly, where did you put the tweeters?

Alon put the speakers in the doors in the front and the tweeters in the dash.

I want to do the same, but I haven't located any door panels yet.

Barrington1 - you're running a really similiar set up as to what I would like to do. How do you like the Alpine headunit and amp?

Thats what they did for me..
I have the actual 5 1/2 inch speaker in the lower door and the tweeter is in the upper lefthand side of the dash it works pretty well for component speakers.

I have 6.5 in the doors tweeter in the dash. 5.25" in the rear with tweeter on the rear deck.

But my system is going to be setup as follows when I get around to it.

Front will be:
6.5" subwoofers in the doors. 5.25" in the dash, tweeters on the a pillar or the top of the door

Rear:
6.5" Mids in place of the 5.25". Tweeters will stay on the deck - First aid kit becomes 2 6.5" subs and 12" sub stays in the trunk.

IT will require some cutting and modding to get the 5.25" in the dash, and the 6.5" setup in the rear will require some major cutting and fabrication and woodwork and all to get the 2 6.5" woofers and the 6.5" midrange in the rear deck.

But all in all its going to be fun and look good when I am done.

What I am going to have is a 3 way setup front and rear with sub mid and high and then the 12" sub in the rear will be the main bass at very low frequency settings.

Also the furi prototype amps I have have built in crossovers, so the tweeters, mids and door and rear deck subs will all run off the amp with no need for external crossovers. They are pretty trick.

After the stock speakers deteriorated, and the Becker tape deck stopped working in my CE, I had a local MB guy re-wire the entire system to use a Clarion ProAudio w/remote and removable faceplate and a 6-disk changer in the trunk.

All the speakers were replaced with MB Quart.

I have much crisper highs and some decent bass, but have no subs. Better than stock, but not as nice as what some of you guys are running.

4.5s in the front
6 inch woofers from a component set in the doors
5.25s in the rear hatshelf
a 600W 4 channel amp powering the door speakers.
custom wiring

one day i'll get around to installing a sub where the first aid kit is that will also be powered by the amp.
i may get a separate amp to power the regular speakers.
i may change out the head unit to get one that is more ipod compatible

denim, nice setup. car sits perfect on the brabus wheels too.

had my audio somewhat upgraded this past summer. alpine 9847 dash with integrated ipod in the center glove compartment ('95), pair of infinty kappa perfect 12s in the trunk, and an alping mrvd-1000w amp in pushing the aluminum perfects. still using stock speakers in the cabin but will upgrade those if i'll be staying in the states. (possible work relocation in asia right now, left the cars to my brother)

on a side note, since i am in hong kong right now, just want to note that there are still some immaculately kept and crazy fixed up 124s out here. just saw a 300e 24 today in the purplish metallic that wasnt offered in the us, dropped, full brabus kit, sitting about an inch of the ground.

Gaww - how do you like your Infinity Kappa Perfect subs? I'm looking into those but I'm definitely getting Infinity Kappa components all around.

Anyways - I just got a good deal (I Think) on a 4-Channel Alpine amp. Model # Alpine MRV-F345. I'm getting it for 200 and picking it up tomorrow. Let me know if that's good.

Also, I'm also possibly picking up a 12" JL Audio W6V2 for around 250.

Update - Since I'm picking up the 4-Channel Alpine Amp tomorrow. I've been told that I'll be only able to power the speakers through this amp and not the subwoofer.

Does anyone recommend that I get the amp anyways for the component speakers I am adding to my system or would it not matter? Personally - I've heard what the amp can do if install with the speakers and the sound quality is superb. Or should I be fine without the amp and just the speakers installed to the headunit alone?

So my question is - Should I also purchase the mono power amp for the sub? this is the one I'm looking at ... or will this amp still be powerful enough to say - bump a JL Audio 12" W6v2?

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Alpine-V12-c...QQcmdZViewItem

Or is there amp that can do all of this and I'll save more money in the process?

a good rule of thumb is that your amp for your subs is at least twice as powerful as whatever is powering your regular speakers.

you might want to get a cheap amp to power your speakers and keep this amp for your subs, or get more powerful one. ive got some cheapo korean made amp in my car, its doing the job, but wont win any soundoffs, but thats not my thing so i dont care.

the amp is pretty much useless now. It still wouldn't be powerful enough to power the subwoofer fully.

I cancelled with the guy since there is no need for the amp. I just bought a newAlpine Headunit today. The CDA-9856 model. Now I just need to buy the direct-connect ipod cable and I'm all set.

I've been looking around for subs and I've been finding some good deals on subs. I might settle with two 10's or just get one 12". I'm still debating on the amp and component speakers. Any suggestions anyone?

Rule of thumb I use for subs is get an amp that is rated at more RMS than your woofer, this is because you can always set the gain lower, but if the amp isn;t enought, it is getting strained, and more power wont destroy a speaker but less power will.

You definately want a 4 channel amp to run your components, and a mono or 2 channel to run your sub. the 2 channel should be bridgeable if you are using it because it will be better for the subs.

I have an 800W amp for my subs, bridged mono at 1 ohm and it pounds the hell outta my woofer and its gain is not even set high at all. the amp has more than enough to push 2 Dual voice coil 15" subs, so the one 12" is like nothing to the amp.

Yeah, I ditched the 4-Channel Amp Alon.

I thought - I can always get that later and invested in the Alpine headunit instead. I'm awaiting to hear from my friend to see if he can get me some equipment.

I always thought it was a bad idea to get an amp which is powered highly above your subs rating. For me i got a kicker kx 600.1 which is 600 rms on 1 channel, i have 2 subs rated 300 RMS each and i have them running bridged. That way it will be really hard for me to blow my subs whilst i'm powering them at their rms limit.

chris,

the kappa perfects hit very nice. i believe there are two series out there. the higher line aluminium perfects are the better one. mine hit crisp and hard without much distortion. of course, powering them with the appropriate amp is always a necessity.

the alpine mrd-605 should be enough to power one 12" jl, especially the w6v2. by the way, that's a great sub. i think for 250 it's a pretty good price for that sub. my friend had one 12w6 (the first editions) in his jetta and it hit hard and clean off a fosgate a500.
