Power seats not moving..Hot wire option??

My 87-300e seats are stuck...cleaning the switches didnt help and I dont know how to get them moving again...I was thinking about hot wiring the 2 front seats so I can take them off and replace any broken parts...does anybody know how to do this???or should I do it or not?? or should I get a professionals help??

Thanks,

did all the functions in the seats stop working and was it at the same time that they both failed? if so I would check the fuse, then see if you get voltage to the switch, and see if the switch actually sends power to the seat. If the switch sends voltage to the motors there's no point in hot wiring them. let me know what you find out.

ok..I took the passenger side switch apart again and hit the contacts with sandpaper...the hight adjustment and the seat recline works(on pass. side) but it doesnt move back and forth. The driver side is completely dead....the motor doesnt even make any noise when I hit the switch.....and to add to this whole mess...I cant take the seat out because the rear bolts on both seats are rusted shut...the bolts got a good amount of WD40 hopefully it'll be loose by tomorrow. If I just could move both seats forward...that's all I need...so I can replace what ever is messed up...Thanks for any input.

Andre.

Test closer further to the source. If you can lift the seat pull the long plug to the motors. You should have a wiring diagram to identify the pins and test them for function from the switch. If they are ok then you can try to "hot wire" the motor from a 12v source. That will tell you if the motor is dead or connection came loose. More like the later unless water flooded the car. Seems odd the bolts are rusted unless someone left the sunroof open during a rain...

I just want to thank all of you for trying to help me with my 300E problems...I checked everything else but what I didnt check are the fuses for the seats...I took a closer look at the fuses and the fuse for the seats were blown...I replaces all the fuses and the seats and windows work perfect. Once again thank you.

Im not sure where the leak is coming from..I think ill have to take the dash apart to find out where it is coming from...and it only leaks when its raining heavily. While I was trying to take the subwoofer wire out of the dash(previous owner had a system in the car), I felt dampness inside the dash amoung the wires..im guessing maybe my windshield was leaking somewhere...but not sure yet..maybe any of you know...any input will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andre.

Heellpp!!

ook..I spoke too soon..same problem, new day my seats are not working at all...again. I dont know what happened but I moved the driver seat all the way up in order to clean under the seat..when I was done I tryed rolling it back but nothing happened...not even a click. The passenger seat is not working either but its in the normal possition. If anybody is fluent with the electrical system of a 87 300E...please contact me...BigDeutscheNYC@aol.com or rotorykilla@aol.com.

so, i found the problem it was just a blown fuse, luckily. there are three fuse boxes in the car: engine, driver side of the dash next to the door and in the trunk on the left. when i opened the fuse box inside the car it had a list with all the fuses and numbers. it said 1,22,38 for passenger seat adjustment but i didnt see any of the above numbers so i went through all of them and checked for a blown one. it was a green 30 that was blown. replaced it and it works again

Huh. Dunno what model you're referring to, here. There's but one fuse block in a 1991 W124 300E, that I can find.

Just keeping the thread data candle burning. Hate to see anyone tearing around their car looking for something that's not there.
